Goal #1: To live with JOY!

I'm a 30-something (ok,ok... VERY close to 40) mommy, wife, daughter, friend, and social worker. I've been fighting my weight since childhood, and am hoping that a combination of fitness and nutrition can finally help me achieve my goals!

I'm a 30-something (ok,ok... VERY close to 40) mommy, wife, daughter, friend, and social worker. I've been fighting my weight since childhood, and am hoping that a combination of fitness and nutrition can finally help me achieve my goals!

In 2001, my 5'4" frame was carrying 420#. I was killing myself with food. I had a duodenal switch gastric bypass surgery. It was moderately successful, but resulted in significant complications, requiring 4 additional surgeries and malnutrition issues. I did lose weight, and my lowest weight was 240#. I maintained that for several years. Then I had an extremely complicated pregnancy, delivery, and recovery. During that time, I regained 70# and started the vicious dieting yo-yo cycle all over. I also learned something important... gastric bypass surgery is a TOOL, not a solution. And the effects of it can be short lived. I can no longer expect it to help me lose this weight.

In January, 2012, I decided to lose the weight once and for all in a holistic way. I've enlisted the help of my doctor, a gym, and a trainer. I've been addressing my malnutrition issues and pernicious anemia. I've been learning about fitness and exercise. And I've been learning about nutrition and putting into a place a well-balanced, nutrition-focused diet.

My Goals:
Goal #1: To live with JOY, regardless of the number on the scale!

Goal #2: To be UNDER 300# - met 1/12

Goal #3: To lose 70# in 2012 - Met 11/12

Goal #3: To see a surgeon and get some answers about my excess skin. - appt done 1/21/13
- Surgeon agrees is medical necessary... Goal:#3b : to work with insurance company to get coverage!

Goal #4: Find ONEderland (for the first time since high school)

Goal #5: Find my goal weight

Goal #6: To greet my 40th bday (5/14) fit, fabulous, and in the best shape of my life!

Goal #7: MAINTAIN!

My Program:
I'm trying something NEW.... MODERATION! I'm limiting calories, limiting diet soda (Oh! The agony!), drinking water, and EATING HEALTHY.

And for the FIRST time in my life, I'm adding fitness! My husband and I joined a gym, and I'm working with a trainer. I'm focusing on cardio at least 5x per week, and strengthening 3x per week.

Personal Information:
Hi! I'm Judy Lynn. I'm trying to lose weight and get healthy. I had modified gastric bypass surgery 11 years ago, and lost 170 pounds. But after pregnancy, bedrest, and a complicated recovery, I re-gained 70 pounds. I've lost and regained the same 25# three times in the past several years. Through this, I learned something valuable... gastric bypass is a TOOL, not the answer. And certainly not easy! Gotta change the track I'm on!

Other Information:
I become frustrated easily when people who have never been obese think they understand my journey. While losing 20 pounds is difficult and admirable, there are different challenges when you have been obese.
