My first 2 years using SparkPeople were incredible. I changed my life, lost the weight, started running, and felt amazing! Not long after I'd reached a goal of losing 100lbs, my partner and I took in our nephew Luke, and parenting became a whole new lifestyle adjustment! In the process of adjusting to parenthood, I regained about 60 of the pounds I'd lost, using SparkPeople inconsistently at best. Luke has been with us almost 3 years now, and we're finally starting to get settled in as a family again. I look at 2014 as a chance to get back on track with my health and learning to make time for me - easier said than done, but I've got to keep trying!
Highlights of 2012:
Ran the MLK 5K with Luke (his 1st!) in January 2012.
Jogged/Walked the Peachtree Road Race 10K with Luke (his 1st 10K!) in July 2012.
Gained permanent guardianship of Luke as of June 27, 2012.
Highlights of 2011:
Achieved 100 lbs lost on March 11, 2011!
Took on care of our 10 yr old nephew as of April 4, 2011.
Ran the St. Louis GO! Half-Marathon with several of my siblings on 4/9/2011.
Received another promotion at work in September.
Highlights of 2010:
Ran my first 5K in June.
Ran my first 10K on my 32nd birthday in July.
Ran my first Half-Marathon on October 3, 2010.
Reached 90 lbs. lost by end of year.
Bought my first pair of Size 12 pants EVER!
Bought my first bike & began occasionally cycling to work.
Planted my first container garden (with mixed results)
Received a promotion at work.
Highlights of 2009:
Joined SparkPeople in July, shortly after my 31st birthday.
Began the first consistent exercise regimen of my life.
Returned to Vegetarianism after a brief hiatus.
Weighed in below 200lbs for the first time since 8th grade.
Reached 40 lbs lost by end of year.
My goal is to re-claim the level of health I achieved with SparkPeople in 2009-2011, this time incorporating my lifestyle changes in tandem with parenthood and family.
Ultimately, my new goal is to reach my goal weight of 160lbs by my 37th birthday on July 5, 2015. I would also like to be training for my first full marathon at that time.
I am starting small:
Exercise 3 times a week, at least 20 minutes.
Eliminate junk food and un-planned snacking.
Drink less coffee (1-2 cups/day) and more water (8-10 cups/day)
I live in downtown Atlanta, GA, but originally hail from the midwest.
I am 35, living with my beautiful partner Layne, nephew Luke, and our sweet cats Simon, Mac & Sam.
I love to read! My favorite authors are Rainer Maria Rilke, Barbara Kingsolver, Jeannette Winterson, John Steinbeck and Maya Angelou.
