I'm a 40 year old mom to two kiddos - Emily, 17 and Hunter, 14. I'm married to my high school sweetheart. I work full time as an LPN at a residential care facility (specializing in mental health) and am an EMT.

We live in NE Iowa and enjoy camping, fishing, boating and skiing as a family. Personally, I enjoy knitting, reading, watching TV and movies, discovering new music and online gaming.

I have struggled with my weight my entire life. When I turned 40, something clicked and I decided it was time to make some changes. For the first time ever I am focusing on lifestyle changes, not dieting. I'm about 1/3 of the way through my journey. I have my good days, and I have my bad days, but I never, ever give up. Slow and steady. Progress not perfection.

“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” ~ World Health Organization

It seems like many of us face a continual battle to stay positive when little progress is apparent. We just have to keep in mind that we our efforts will result in a healthier life. We need to focus on how we are feeling and the energy we have to accomplish daily life tasks. I’m working hard to concentrate on my health rather than just on the number on the scale; to concentrate on non-scale victories to help me stay positive every day.
