There are some goals that you don't even know you have. You act as if..... because you really don't believe you can.... and if you don't ACT as if it is possible, then there is no possibility of success, right? Then surprise! One day you realize you did it. And it is.... very emotional... realizing you could reach a goal. Realizing what or who you really want to be. Realizing you can do anything one step at a time.
"It is hard to have confidence in yourself. So tempting to give up after trying and failing. Yet we all MUST keep trying. Success is just waiting to happen and we have to give it a chance." I wrote this to an SP member and was so struck by my own words that I decided to copy it onto my page to read again and again when I feel like giving up. Who knew I was so smart?
"To have faith, is to trust yourself to the water.
When you swim you don't grab hold of the water,
because if you do you will sink and drown.
Instead you relax, and float."
I joined SP in July 2008 and have seen small but definite changes in my life. I don't try as hard as I used to and funny enough that has been a good thing. I used to diet or take on hard fitness programs.. and quit. I'd sabatoge myself or life would happen and I would give up. Now, I exercise regularly and with more variety. I have learned to eat with an awareness of carbs, fats and protein and spread my food over the day. I rest and get better sleep. I have trimmed my blogs and kept the meaningful ones. It's a slow journey for me but I realized today it is downhill since I came to SP. That's a GOOD thing, lol. I have diabetes and 50 years old so, you know, it is really hard to have the scale show my progress. I have let that go. It is about being accountable and as I get used to a new "habit" making it a part of my lifestyle. I think my new friends on SP will continue to challenge and inspire me to be all that I can!
SP has shown me that I can live healthier. I have physical goals, eating goals, drinking water goals, sleeping goals, lol - sexy goals... and I want to feel strong, fit and toned. SP is also helping me control my blood sugars. I am learning to live now the way I want to live in the future. The bonus is I am losing weight.
Physically: I swim, do aquafit. I'm a Rideau Trail Nut because I am writing a historical fiction about the building of the Rideau Canal which goes from Ottawa to Kingston and I am determined to walk the length of it. I have an artificial knee but have discovered walking with poles gives me stability and confidence to walk rough terraine plus build some arm strenth. Strength training has revved my metabolism and toned my body so I feel... sexy.
I run a small bed and breakfast. A year ago my dream was to make it spa/fitness oriented and as of January 2010 that dream has become a reality. When I have SP guests it is a gift to my program as we can eat and exercise together.
Problems: My biggest problem is consistancy. Life happens. I balk at failure and at success. That's the beauty of SP because it helps me build healthy habits. When something goes wrong... which is always does... SP helps me regroup my goals and continue on. I'm in for the journey!
"If you can't fly then run. If you can't run then walk. If you can't walk then crawl. But whatever you do, keep moving." - Martin Luther King, Jr

I am Canadian, 54 years old, and was an OT before I retired. Now I run a small bed and breakfast so I work most weekends. It has allowed me to have my own indoor pool and gym! I participate in Nanowrimo every year. I have 3 growns daughters and have been in love with my DH for over 30 years.
I love Diana Gabaldon and Jack Whyte books. My eldest daughter has Asperger's and other health issues and will probably live at home many more years. My other two daughters are amazing and awesome and moving gradually away from home. I plan the harp. I love rocks and trees and water.

Thanks for commenting on my blog. For me growing up, fun was anything but cleaning. Mom would state after you cleaned, we can go...but we never did. I got to watch the 4-H kids make things but I wasn't allowed to make things because I was to young. When we had company mom was very stressed, I had to help clean. When we had company, I had to help mom when the company came, if I didn't, I got yelled at later. I was always watching others having fun. Mom did stuff like made home made cheese with her special ed kids and would come him and be so stressed afterward. My dad was not happy until I was upset. When I was in college, everything became fun. To me fun is in that attitude, etc. I remember making home made cookies and frosting with a friend. We laughed so hard as we made both! I remember is college walking in light falling snow. Having fun is enjoying yourself with people who are enjoy themselves as well. I am unsure if that even makes since!

I understand about getting so use to each other that you forget the romance. I could use a few of those ideas. We do pick on each other all the time, but I see nothing wrong with walking hand in hand, or those 10 second kisses. Kind of miss that stuff also.
