At Goal!! 122 pounds lost
NO, that's ME on the RIGHT!!!!
JWADDELL2 is a SparkPeople Motivator!
I have fought against the current for long enough! My diagnosis with type-2 diabetes was the last straw....the weight loss thing is going to work this time!! I am the only one who can do something about it! Gotta grab those oars and KEEP PADDLIN'!!!!! I hope to make some friends along the way here who can help me row and maybe splash me in the face when I need it!
Seven months later: I'm going to leave my words from seven months ago on my page...I think we need to be reminded of the attitudes along the way! I had been changing my lifestyle for two months before I discovered SP, and SP has made a big difference in how I have learned and progressed. I have lost 90 lbs in the nine months since I have started! I wasn't doing anything except collapsing on the sofa after work - now I am riding my recumbent trike (I call it my Mama's Hog), walking, and even swimming - I have enough energy to do all sorts of things that I didn't even care about before! My diabetes is under control with diet and exercise, and the doctor has taken me completely off my blood pressure meds!! I won't lie, being able to wear smaller sizes has been wonderful (I have gone from a tight 22/24 to a size 14 right now, with 30 lbs to go.) After years of dieting and different programs, it has come down to diet and exercise - who da thunk it!!??
Ten months of diet and exercise and I hit 100 lbs lost!! I have had people not recognize me and one lady at work thought I had left and they had hired someone new! I feel great and am ABSOLUTELY DETERMINED to take care of myself by living this lifestyle for the rest of my life!
ONE YEAR on my program of diet and exercise!! I am amazed...107 lbs lost, 14 to get to goal. Bought myself a new MP3 player for my anniversary for my walking program - it is the WOW program that Michelle Stanton has from Prevention magazine. I can walk in the gym during lunch or after work at the church where I work. I would never have thought I would be walking like this a year ago!
Goal reached - March 13, 2011!!! (14 months)
122 pounds 45% of my body weight lost!!!
Maintence is tricky - my attitude is that getting to goal is halfway....now to make this a lifestyle for the rest of my life.
Report - eight months of maintenance now!! (November, 2011) I am actually learning how to eat and not feel like I am denying myself something....like when I go to have pizza and only have one or two pieces! Learn, learn, learn!!
(September, 2012) Eighteen months of maintenance - whoda thunk it!!? Must stay vigilant!!! So easy to let amounts sneak up!! Still exercising - that is good!
My Biggest Lessons: Good grief!! TWO years away from Sparkpeople - shame on me! My only excuse is that after retiring, I just don't get on the computer as much! Confession time - after retiring and losing the structure of my days, I let some weight back on....however, I have now lost almost all of that - so easy to do! I am working out with weights for "dem bones" and line dancing for cardio 3-4 times per week! I recently did a 5K (walk - I only run when someone is chasing me with a weapon!) & plan to do another right before Thanksgiving!! I do see SP on Facebook, so that is great!! I am going to try to be back online more and catch up!
This is a LIFESTYLE, not something to stop when I get to goal.
EXERCISE is required - not only to lose weight, but to keep the diabetes under control.
PORTIONS, PORTIONS, PORTIONS....watch them!
Keep a FOOD DIARY.
Don't be to hard on myself - pat myself on the back when I deserve it and don't beat up on myself when I mess up.
KEEP GOING and DO NOT QUIT!!!
My list of "wisdom" that is still by my desk at work:
Never, never, never, never give up!!
There are only two options regarding commitment. You're either IN or you're OUT. There's no such thing as life in-between.
Weight loss is a marathon, not a sprint. It's not about losing weight, it's about a lifestyle choice.
Even if you are on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there!
No more excuses.
Exercise - Homage to the weight you have already lost. Do it as a farewell to the person you used to be. Say Goodbye.
Whether you think you can or think you can't, you are right.
When things go wrong, don't go with them.
There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.
Along with wanting to lose a total of 121 lbs, I want to get more healthy and be able to do more active things with DH!! I have my type 2 diabetes under control with diet and exercise and was recently taken off my blood pressure meds!!
Update: Reached my goal of 150lbs on March 13, 2011!! Lost 45% of my body weight and have a "healthy" BMI. Now..maintenance!
I am doing a diabetic diet - Prevention magazine's Dtour diet - and doing well -however, their community contact is nada - I LOVE SP!! I ride my 21speed recumbent "trike" when the weather is warm and do Michelle Stanton's WOW walking program (another Prevention magazine program) at other times - it is a GREAT walking program!
We live in northeastern Oklahoma - I am 63 and work as the office administrator for a church - I love my job! Along with our two very spoiled chihuahuas, we have two great daughters, three grandchildren, and four granddoggies!
