CAN YOU BE FIT AFTER 56!

"THE QUESTION ISN'T WHO IS GOING TO LET ME; ITS WHO IS GOING TO STOP ME" - Ayn Rand

I came to Spark to give and to share all the inspiration I could muster for any woman who feels she can't get fit and look great at any age. "THE QUESTION ISN'T WHO IS GOING TO LET ME; ITS WHO IS GOING TO STOP ME" - Ayn Rand

My name is Karen and it is 2010 and time for everyone to make this the year of complete achievement. I just celebrated my 56th year of life and it only gets better. I came to Spark to give and to share all the inspiration I could muster for any woman who feels she can't get fit and look great at any age. I started working very hard several years ago to see how far I could take my body and I have achieved more than I ever thought possible. I competed in my first figure competition in October, 2006 against all those twenty somethings and I couldn't have been more proud of how I felt and how I looked.

My goals for 2009 were realized as planned to compete one more time at age 55 - done deal!!. I finished my Specialist in Fitness Nutrition and now am certified in that. In 2010 I will finish with my Fitness Therapy Certification and will then become an Elite Trainer level 1 with ISSA - goal end of Feb/Mar. In March/April I will be doing certification with the brand new National Association of Fitness Nurses of which I am very excited. This way I will be able to utilize my nursing and personal training. I am already capable of doing all of that because I am a Licensed Professional Nurse, but the certification is a brand new area of nursing so I will go through that process. I truly cannot function without goals and those goals are exactly what can make all the things in life that you want real. "IF YOU CAN DREAM IT, YOU CAN ACHIEVE IT".

I am a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer, a Specialist in Performance Nutrition and Specialist in Fitness Nutrition. I have my Bachelors Degree as a Registered Nurse. I am a Fitness and Nutrition Coach and have studied for several years to be the best that I can be for my clients. I am an entrepenur and have my own part time training business in my home and train people on-line . I work almost exclusively with womens health and fitness. I

Check out my new website - hopefully I will be able to take
it to the next level to add videos etc at some point in the near
future:

I do hope that if even one person can feel inspired by my presence then I will feel I have contributed what I can to any women who feels that their dreams of being fit are too far out of reach. If you make a committment to yourself, nothing is impossible.

My Goals:
I have realized my goals for my body for 2009 and am now working on finishing 2 certifications that I am currently working on. I am also thinking ahead to 2010 on what my goals shall be - I cannot function without goals and now that I am "retired" from figure competition I need to find that extra special challenge that will be fitting for me in 2010.

My Program:
I will be training consistently 4-5 days per week and my training focus is on maintaining my much earned muscle mass and current physique. I will change up my workouts every 4 weeks. My muscle growth is where I want it to be and I have no desire to get any bigger than I am.

My nutrition will be a healthy eating plan to support my muscle mass and maintain my bodyfat at around 16% which is where I chose to keep it year round. I pretty much follow a 90/10 rule for eating and that works well for me.

Personal Information:
I live in the state of New York with my husband who is the most wonderful man in the world. He is paralyzed and a hemodialysis patient. I care for him full time and go to all of his dialysis treatments 3 days per week. I had 2 children but my first born, daughter Angela died just after her 10th birthday from a rare bone marrow disease that she was diagnosed with at 6 months old - she was the very heart of my heart. I have a 25 year old son who is the best son I could ever dream to have. All in all I have had more pain in my life than I care to imagine - but with that pain came great strength. I am blessed to have the experiences that I have had and the wisdom and sensitivity it has brought to me as a person.

Other Information:
I love everything and anything that is fitness. I love working closely with all of my clients - they are all such a joy in my life. I love to snow shoe or anything that is outdoors. I very much enjoy helping others and the inner happiness I feel from doing so. I don't look back, I just keep moving forward and enjoying all of the happiness that I have in my life. Life is truly what you make it and you have the choice of making all of your dreams come true. I will forever be striving to see all of my dreams come true.

Just stopped by to say hi...thinking of you. How are you? How's hubby? Today we have inspections and appraisals and then we should have a firm closing date....FINALLY!!! Remember the bands you told me to order? Do you mount these over a door or how is the best way to use them? Looking forward to start using them.

hugs, Wanda

Thx so much for the SparkGoodie! Yep, a beginner here...only went a few times last year and NONE so far this year. It's one of those things I decided I wanted to "conquer" now that I weigh so much less. Problem is: my balance is horrible! Total klutz on skis and mopped a lot of trails with my back side...lol! Especially poor with any downhill slope...feet go right out from under. Have wanted to get back at it and see if I could do better. Got a SparkPeople Balance Board through the SparkStore which I've been using with some results...hoping to see it pay off on the cross country skis.

Hope your winter is going well!

Don
