Try try again to lose weight

I am a married mother of nine. I work weekends as a nurse. I was recently diagnosed with diastolic heart failure which has become my wake up call to finally lose weight and de3velop a healthier life style. I love to read, garden and spend time in prayer and Bible study.

emoticon so much for your encouraging comments, Karen! I am delighted to hear of your 5K with your daughter. Yay you!!! Actually, I don't go hiking in the rain because I would be scared to ruin my camera... I am going on walks in the rain though (one hour or one hour and a half) when I don't have my camera. My friend Sabrina and I go on a 1.5 hour walk in the woods every Monday night no matter what the weather is (apart from thunderstorm!!!). So we have had quite a few walks in the rain over the years!

I am 45, I will be 46 in November. :) I hope losing weight will make me feel younger again, at the moment I feel tired so easily, and my knees and ankles are killing me. :( I know you know what I mean. Sigh. I am hiking further than I did when I first started 3 years ago, but my weight means I can't increase any further: at the end of my hikes, all my body is aching! My hikes are usually around 7 or 8 miles these days, which I walk in 3.5 to 4 hours (depending on how steep it is and how often I stop for pictures... I usually take about 70-100 pictures during a single hike!). I don't know how faster I would walk if I didn't stop for pictures, but taking pictures makes it so much more fun for me!!! Also, I really don't push myself. The whole point is to have a great time, to last (i.e. not to feel exhausted half way!), and to want to go again the following week.

I hope you'll start hiking, it really is fun if you have some good hiking paths near where you live. But don't push yourself. I find that I can push myself when I go on a 1-hour walk, not on a 3-hour hike.

There is a great variety of fields in the Paris area, including corn. This is one of the things I love about hiking through the countryside: for many months, there are things to look at and crops I have never seen! We have had so far the wettest and coldest summer in over 10 years. I love the 'cool' aspect, not so much the wet one! But I'll be travelling to much hotter part of the world for work in September, so I'll get a 'proper' hot summer at last, haha! (Italy and then several countries in the Gulf)
