Try try again to lose weight

I am a married mother of nine. I work weekends as a nurse. I was recently diagnosed with diastolic heart failure which has become my wake up call to finally lose weight and develop a healthier life style. I love to read, garden and spend time in prayer and Bible study.

Hi Karen, you seem to be doing GREAT, a little over one month after surgery! It makes me very happy for you! As for your job at the nursing home, it is so important to take things slowly, you can't be expected to be back to your full health and strength!

I am indeed able to eat anything I want now. The only thing I can't have and will never be able to have again is fizzy drinks. I don't mind at all. I have also discovered I really don't like meat anymore. It is OK as I have always prefered fish anyway!!! :) I am OK with ham though, so I bought some tonight. It will help with the proteins: like you, I need to give proteins the priority, so that I don't lose muscles. I have been at a plateau now for a week, so I hope the scale will move soon! I hiked so much and ate as little as usual this weekend, it is a bit discouraging the scale didn't move at all;

Have a great week and take good care of yourself! :)

P.S. What you are saying about portions in the US is completely true!!! I was really shocked when I visited the USA for the first time to see the huge portions in restaurants! But I hear that it is sometimes possible to ask for half portions? Or you could ask for a doggy bag? I know that for me though it would have been impossible to eat at the restaurant earlier after surgery: I was getting stressed and couldn't eat if I wasn't in a familiar environment. So take your time!
