Like a lot of folks, I've griped and complained about my weight for years. Once upon a time, pre-baby, I was a healthy weight and very fit. My baby is now 11 years old, and this weight is no longer baby weight.

The thing is, I have a bad habit of overbooking my time. For instance, I work a full-time 8-5 M-F job outside the home, am working on coursework to complete the credit requirements to sit the CPA exam, and homeschool our son in evening and weekend hours who is Autistic ...
Like a lot of folks, I've griped and complained about my weight for years. Once upon a time, pre-baby, I was a healthy weight and very fit. My baby is now 11 years old, and this weight is no longer baby weight.

The thing is, I have a bad habit of overbooking my time. For instance, I work a full-time 8-5 M-F job outside the home, am working on coursework to complete the credit requirements to sit the CPA exam, and homeschool our son in evening and weekend hours who is Autistic and had difficulty learning in the public classroom (and he's doing fantastic since we withdrew and are able to educate him at his pace and in his needs dictate)! Family support is exceptional - father-in-law provides daytime care for my boy for nominal fee, and my husband is a rock of support - but there are still only 24 hours in a day. Oh, I also started a home improvement project of redecorating the rooms in our house, to include paint on walls and cabinetry along with sprucing up upholstery and curtains which, of course, all need to be custom-made by myself or fantastic mother-in-law. Life gets hectic without help, and I have a habit of piling as much as possible on top of that!

Still, being healthy should not fall to the bottom of the priority list as it has for such a long time. To change that, my husband and I both are making weekly changes to our menus by trying new fruits and vegetables as well as decreasing the frequency of high-calorie treats and meals. We are starting to exercise and often do so as a family. My husband and I have found a new love of yoga - who would have thought?! We used to giggle at the poses people twist themselves into, but oddly...those stretches combined with building of strength feel rejuvenating, and the whole experience is relaxing. Our son often joins us for cardio workouts, and walks, runs, dances, or prances along beside us. He's healthy and fit, so it is our hope that changes we are making now will help him see that adulthood should be an active continuation of the habits he naturally has as a child, instead of growing sedentary and reliant on packaged foods while still understanding that the occasional treat is okay!

Moderation in all things... One day, I'll learn that myself!

My Goals:
1) Get back to a healthy BMI. I do not care what size I am, but I want to have the best shot of being around long-term to see my son grow and mature.
2) Get fit enough to run a marathon. There's a loooong road ahead of me for that!

My Program:
Minor changes that add up over time. I've eliminated coffee and switched to tea. The family now eats every meal at the table, not grab and mindlessly chew in front of the TV.

Thank you for adding me as a friend. You sound like a very busy person. Try to find some time for yourself - it's important and You Are Important! In-between all you do, is there 10 minutes that you can devote to exercise? If/when you watch tv, try walking in place during commercials. You'd be surprised how much you can get done.

Thanks! I mainly feel like I'm babbling most of the time, so I'm glad to hear it makes sense once in a while. emoticon
