It is always okay to nurture myself first. On Fridays or Saturdays, I make a weekly plan for how I'm going to be healthy that week, and I try to set reasonable goals so that I am motivated to follow through.
I have a long history of health and weight challenges, but I'm working every day to live life now better than ever! Challenges have included a major surgery in my late teens, chronic pain from scar tissue, sciatica 3x in my life so far, and a mysterious slow-healing injury that lasted from May 2010-Nov 2011.
I was once almost 190 lbs (in 2003), and once made it down to 145 (in 2005 and 2009), but that lower weight was too strident and I wasn't very strong. I'm building up my strength these days and trying to remember that every day is a day for mindful self-care!
Eat mindfully, paying attention to my body's hunger, appetites, satiation, and to every delicious bite.
Engage in joyful exercise 4x per week--walking and strength training.
Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful. -Buddha
