Hi Kendra:

Welcome to Sparkpeople. I love it here and it is only because of this site and the great friends I've made on my spark team the NEW team that I was able to finally rid myself of my excess weight. I know when you've been carrying weight for a long time and you've tried one thing after another it can seem like the possiblity of ever having the body you want and being fit and healthy is an impossible dream, but to my great surprise as I learned over time here at spark that simply is not true. It takes time, it takes consistency, and it takes work and really being focused but it will happen and you can have so much fun and make so many great friends during the journey. You have the fun of building on one little success at a time. Each success powers you to do more and more. You'll find your self doing things you never imagined...I mean I went from couch potato to actually running...over time. Crying in dressing rooms to laughing for the sheer joy of simply being able to walk in a store and know If I like something they have it in my size. I marvel now that I let so many years go by. I've learned so many lessons. The most pivotal for me was the 80/20 rule which seems like common sense to most people but to me was an absolute revelation. 80% of the time you eat healthy, in range, you track your food and the other 20 life happens you don't let it derail you and think you failed and give up...you just carry on...its a lifestyle not a diet. Remember baby steps and be good to yourself. Don't overwhelm yourself, just make a few small changes, make them a habit, then make a few more healthy changes. Find something you enjoy that is physical and start doing that...you don't have to think ok...I need to work out for an hour....at first say...hey....I'm gonna exercise for 10 minutes 4 days a week...thats not overwhelming and then you'll have a success and you'll naturally start doing more and more. If I had known then what I know now I would never have gone all those years overweight...because the truth is...this is soooo entirely doable. Its all about the journey and having a great life.
Best wishes to you in your journey.
Heather Dawn
