Update: July 10, 2013 I am down 45 lbs from my starting weight. I have been getting compliments from friends and family, doctors and coworkers. I am in the gym 5-6 days a week now and I eat very well. My weight loss has slowed dramatically for some reason but I am going to keep plugging away. Spark coaches have told me I need to eat more since I am working out but then I feel like I eat too much. Just have to keep experimenting and learning my magic calorie number that will allow me to continue losing weight but also have the energy and fuel to keep building lean muscle. I feel like I'm in my 30's again and I am able to hike, take bike rides with my daughter, and best of all, go kayaking. Before I was afraid of buying one and not meeting the weight requirements and didn't want to look foolish. I'm spreading the spark also. I've influenced 9 people to join so far because of my success. Hooah!!! :)



New update: Well I am 25 pounds lighter in six weeks. So far I am blown away with the success I've had from just keeping track of my calories in and calories burned. I have spread the spark to my friends and family and even my daughter joined Sparkteen. I've still got a ways to go but I am feeling great, energetic, and 10 years younger. Hooah!


I am in my early 40's and suffered a heart attack last year. I had to get five stents put into my heart and it really woke me up to wanting to be healthier. I have always been a big guy but I no longer am OK with that. I don't like feeling older than I am. I was always a very active and hard working adult. I worked hard and played hard. Since the heart attack I took a desk job and my weight ballooned up. I am heavier now than I ever was and I don't feel well. My blood pressure and cholesterol numbers are good now with medication but my weight seems to taken up a permanent residence and it's invited the in-laws too. I am fearful that I will be dead by 50 if I don't lose this extra weight and lessen the work load on my heart. I am a little desperate as it seems nothing works. There is no magic pill out there so I was referred here by my wonderful doctor in hopes that I can educate myself and learn the tools to lose weight and keep it off so I can live a normal life. My cardiologist says my heart attack was a warning sign to change my lifestyle but that it will still serve me well if I take care of it. I am attempting to do just that. I am married with a daughter of my own who is 13 and I have two step kids who are 13 and 10. I want to be here for them and see them grow up. I don't like being 43 and thinking about my mortality every single day wondering if today is the day my heart is going to give out. I look forward to this weight loss journey and hope for the best.

Okay -- I definitely think that I will have to buy one of those zoodle makers on amazon. Those look like better noodle than I am ever able to make with my peeler. Thanks for the complements on my photo -- it was in Croatia, just outside of Dubrovnik. I'm not sure what kindof thistle it is -- but Thistle is a family name, so whenever I see them especially if they are pretty, I like to take pictures of them. I took it with a point and shoot camera. I bought a hybrid sort of DSLR camera, but have been somewhat disappointed in it with the camera screen showing one thing, and the actual photo itself looking totally different. Guess it might be time for me to pull out the giant manual and figure it out. Looking forward to checking out your website -- I've gone back and forth on what to do with all my photography -- but mostly I think it's just for me and just for fun. :-)
