My name is Karen and I am from the Buffalo, NY area. Year after year I set the same old resolution for myself "to lose weight and feel healthier." And year after year that resolution takes a backseat to the cupcakes, chicken wings, ice cream, and my couch. However, this year I have a new motivation and one that I hope is strong enough to propel me past those hurdles. My goal this time around is to "get healthy and stay healthy." In September I was diagnosed with colon cancer. I have completed chemotherapy and am currently in remission. Diet and exercise play an important role in staying healthy and cancer free. Losing weight will be a side effect of achieving a healthy and active lifestyle.

My Goals:
I like baby step goals. They help keep me focused and moving forward.

Goal #1: Lose 5% or 16lbs

My Program:
It is important to me that I choose a diet as free from chemicals, preservatives, hormones, nitrates etc... as possible. I try to eat "close to the earth" with lots of fresh vegetables and yes, even meats, but they must be grass fed and organic. I'm not crazy for the lifestyle, but as a cancer patient I want to keep foreign substances at bay!

Thanks for the friend add and the nice comments on my Spark Page. It has been quite a journey and I am still fighting the good fight. I still want to lose about 80 more pounds before I reach my goal and then I will be where I want to be. I wish you luck with your journey, am glad to hear your cancer is in remission and hope you will stick with the program this time around. It really is worth it.
