I can do this....yet again!!!!

I am 49 years old (I mean young), and I am the mom of two great kids, Tyler (17) and Blake (15).

I have struggled with my weight all my life....have done the yo-yo thing since I was 12...Yikes...I'm 49!! I know I can lose weight, I struggle more with keeping it off.

I have been blessed all my life with excellent health. I have tons of energy and love life!!

Here is a little story about how I'm approaching my weight loss this time compared to how I have ...

I have struggled with my weight all my life....have done the yo-yo thing since I was 12...Yikes...I'm 49!! I know I can lose weight, I struggle more with keeping it off.

I have been blessed all my life with excellent health. I have tons of energy and love life!!

Here is a little story about how I'm approaching my weight loss this time compared to how I have ever approached it: Back in 2001 I went back to get my Bachelors degree at 38. My kids were 4 & 6 at the time. I only had 9 units and was staring at 4 years to get the degree. Oh...did I mention I work full time in outside sales. Everybody thought I was crazy. I decided that I could plug away for 4 or more years and have a degree�.or keep the status quo and in 4 years I would just be�well another 4 years older....I did it. To date it is one of my biggest accomplishments! I can now say I have a Bachelor of Science in Business...and I can also say I graduated with honors!

Again, this story represents how I am approaching weight loss this time. If you break things down in smaller increments they are easier to accomplish. I'm not looking at the total number of pounds I have to lose or worrying about how long it will take to lose it.

Update October 2009: It has now been 15 months since I started this journey with SparkPeople. I took my weight loss 10 lbs at a time and 15 months later and with almost 80 lbs gone, I only have 10 to 15 more lbs to lose!!....What I finally figured out about weight loss is it is not a destination. It is a lifetime journey...and how you approach it is what makes the journey fun or miserable. It's all about attitude. I can loath getting up to go exercise or I can be grateful that I am healthy enough to get up and go exercise (one of my best friends doesn't have that luxury)...see where I'm going?

It's working for me and I am having a great time and meeting the most amazing people doing it!!

4-6-2012 - Update - I have been struggling with my weight and running....seems as I get older my body just doesn't want to cooperate like it used to! I have gained about 45 lbs back (in the span of a few months - wish I could lose it that fast) but I finally have gotten some issues under control and it looks like I'm hopefully starting to get it back off. I have never stopped exercising. I still run and work out at the gym between 4 to 6 days a week. As I read back through all of my blogs you will always hear me say it is a journey! So.......my journey took a bit of a turn.....I think I'm about 3/4 of the way up a steep hill and can almost see the top....reminds me of when I run a half marathon....if you keep putting one foot in front of the other the finish line is eventually in sight...I'm looking forward to closing this chapter and starting a new one...... Stay tuned.....

Attitude: It is the key!!

My Goals:

8-22-08 170 Done! 8-5-08
10-10-08 160 Done! 9-23-08
11-14-08 150 Done! 11-11-08 1-02-09 140 Done!
3-11-09 130 132.8 Didn't quite make it..132 does make me within my normal BMI range though!!
4-3-09 130 (revised date) Still not there. I'm still at 132.8.....
5-4-09 130 (revised date again) DONE FINALLY!
8-31-09 120- I will not be at 120 by 8-31. Weight loss is a lot slower when you are smaller...
10-26-09 120 - Still at 124 which is ok for now....I'm in a happy place....
8-11-2011 - 159 - Back at it....goal by 10-8-11 is 143

Ultimate Goal: It would be cool to be featured in People Magazine's half my size issue!!

Exercise 5 to 6 times a week ~ either run, walk, or crawl 5 miles or do 60 minutes on the treadmill, elliptical, stair stepper....Just do it ~ no excuses!!
ST 3x per week

My Program:
I am using the daily log to count calories..and I mean everything I put in my mouth! I have been on every diet imaginable and believe calories in calories out....................1200 to 1300 calories on non workout days and 1200 + 1/2 of all exercise calories on workout days.




Personal Information:
I live in Camas, Washington (just north of the Oregon Border). Moved here from Southern California almost 6 years ago....I am still homesick.....I love the sunshine in California. I have to admit you can't beat the summers in the Pacific Northwest though!!

just saying hello from the cold north. Michigan is being obnoxious and giving us morning frost and afternoons around 50. brrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I am so ready for warmer weather. How are you? I want to get together this summer. It really does get warm here and nice I promise!
