My weight has gone up and down most of my life but then I hit a new high weight and decided I had had it. I got more serious on sparkpeople, got my food in order, started exercising regularly and started feeling better and losing weight. I felt great. And I had lost almost 40 pounds. I was on my way!

Then a series of bad things in life hit me one after the other. I got depressed. I lost my inner strength. I stopped caring about myself. I tried to hang in there but I was only putting forth a token effort. I just couldn't seem to find myself again and I just couldn't seem to find the energy to care about me. Sure enough, gradually my healthy habits faded away. Before I knew it I had gained all the weight back that I had worked so hard to lose. I felt even worse. Before I knew it I had gained 20 more pounds on top of it. I felt worse.

Fortunately, I had another "I HAVE HAD IT!" moment. I got sick and tired of living this way and decided I had to change. Unfortunately, right as I was getting back to my healthy ways I injured my back. That was a major blow to my fragile motivation. I'm not going to let it stop me though. I'll start by doing what I can do NOW.

Since I have a lot of weight to lose and a long way to go my plan is to focus primarily on the next five pounds.

Short-term goal - lose 5 pounds
Mid-term goal - lose first 10%
Long-term goal - get under 300

    Thanks so much for the Spark Goodie! Glad you're back on track with your weight loss efforts! I've also been struggling with my weight most of my life. I've gained and lost multiple times over the years. BUT I KNOW emoticon !!

    emoticon Job on the over 1,000 mims of Exercise !! WOOHOOOO !!

    I got a call today from a diff foot surgeon (I was told there are only a few) and I am seeing him in 8 hrs. I NEED to go to bed soon,, but yeah I had napped earlier,, so it'll be hard to sleep. The surgery is supposed to be the answer now,, i do NOT TRUST anyone until I hear it out of their mouth.

    CONGRATS on being so close to the 1,000 mins a month ! Today is our last day of the month. YOU CAN DO It !! YEAH !! It'll show on your award page. WOOHOOO YOU GO GIRL !!! Enjoy the 5% challenge !

    I may write a blog tomorrow,, not sure Saw my foot Dr today,,,,, she can't do the surgery. UGHERS !! There are very few Dr's who do this in the area. Shoot I live near the largest city north of Boston and yet in some ways like a small town.

    HI Melissa !! Hon when it comes to eating food,,, that we don't really need or want,,, have you asked yourself "Why AM I eating this?" The answer may surprise you. Are you in group generally when this happens? Are you hungry,,, if you ARE hungry than something healthy will be fine. Are you upset from an event of today or in the past? Are you feeling the love for yourself?

    THe last one can be HARD For many. I LOVE what an old therapist said to me "Would you say____(name of GD who was mostly living with me,, she was I think 12 at the time) such a thing to ,,,, name,,, as you do yourself? For instance would you call ,,, name ,,, a **TCH? A NO GOOD FOR NOTHING !??? A WASTE OF SPACE??? FAT **** !!????

    If you would NOT say this to your precious loved ones,, you should NOT to yourself ! WOW !! LIGHTBULB moment !! I'd NEVER say even the remote thing that may hurt her ! The therapist was RIGHT !! She had me replace the negative things as "YOU ***TCH (GD name) and of course I COULD NOT follow through with that !! It quickly taught me,, as she pointed out,, when we treat ourselves with DISRESPECT we BELIEVE the negative messages,, though they are not accurate.
