Hi. I'm Lin. I have been dieting, off and on, for 60 years. I've learned over the years that popular or trendy diets are not for me. Since joining SparkPeople, I've learned that dieting isn't the answer period. I am now making life changes that I hope to carry out from now on. I have several chronic conditions (Heart Disease, Diabetes, Crohn's Disease, Restless Leg Syndrome, and Obstructive Sleep Apnea). I want to lose weight, I need to track my nutrient intake, and I need to find exercise that I am capable of doing to augment what I currently do (and that is able to be modified for when I am in heart failure). My weight is always up and down but by the end of each year, I lost 18 lbs. in 2012 and 18 lbs. in 2013. Because of Congestive Heart Failure, I can gain 1-5 lbs. overnight and with medication, lose 1-8 lbs. overnight - all water.

My Goals:
to lose 80 lbs - not get to an "ideal weight" but one I know I'll be comfortable with; and to do daily exercise to improve my self esteem and my health conditions but that my heart condition will allow. Originally the whole kit and kaboodle was my goal. Another member posted her goal and I want to adopt a similar one - every day I will say to myself, today I will stick to my change to a more balanced lifestyle -- I will eat only my healthier diet and do my exercises.

My Program:
I am working on following the Nutrition Goals for Diabetics on SparkPeople modified to include tracking of sodium intake as that is restricted due to my heart condition (up to 1200 mg a day). I have been unsuccessful losing weight at the recommended daily calorie intake and have modified my program for 1000-1500 calories a day. I am tracking my daily exercise activities to see how many calories I burn such as Aquafit 4/week and walking (slowly). Significant time spent on vigorous household chores and in the garden are also logged, With husband Paul, I lost 27 lbs. with a Health Clinic Vitality Diet 4 May 13 to early July. I tried to keep that weight off but also to continue losing weight to meet my goal. Before you can go on the above diet again, you have to wait 6 weeks. That passed and I tried the diet again on my own without success. I would like to try again with my DH when hockey season is over. While on the first part of the diet you are not to exercise more than a 1/2 hr.

I was a single mother for most of my daughter's life - a daughter who has grown up to be a beautiful woman inside and out. I am now a Grandmother and loving it!

Other Information:
I love being a wife to my DH, Mom to my DD, Grandma to my DG, and Mom to our cat*. I love to read, garden and paint. I paint using acrylic paints and do landscapes, animals and birds, pet portraits, and some decorative painting. I currently have a tiny vegetable garden and I have 12 perennial gardens. A 13th is under construction by my DH.
* We lost our beloved cat Chloe Dec 19 2013.

Hi Lin
Glad you're back... I've been absent for some time.. lots going on. My mom has moved in with us.. it's going well so far. She's easy to live with but likes her sweets around Christmas time. I have to get back on track. Have gained all the weight back I lost but not more so am at least grateful for that. Back to square one though!
Logged food today for first time in months. A little shocked at how much I've been eating in terms of calories but I guess it explains the weight.
