Almost four years in Austin now. Still miss the changing of seasons. Gains and losses and gains again during my time here...time now to buckle down again. In the middle of remodeling my kitchen and breakfast room. I have all the usual remodel stories of things going awry. It was to be expected with a condo that had seen no remodeling since its build date in the late seventies. Countertops are going in tomorrow. They need to look beyond gorgeous. It was an indulgence to choose a painfully expensive quartz to begin with. But it is even more expensive now, and there is no hope for it. The original measurement estimate was off by 14 square feet...not in my favor. Oh, ouch. This has been such a trial that I suspect I shall just continue to live with the dismal bathroom. Well, maybe I'll take out the medicine cabinet, change the light fixture, paint, put in some shelves...

ARCHIVED: January is my one year anniversary as an Austinite. A year ago, I happily left the snowbelt I had lived in for almost twenty years. I knew I needed to return to a warmer climate to be able to work on getting myself back into any kind of shape. And, IT WORKED! I have my balance back. I not only walk without a cane now, I regularly go on 4+ mile walks! I have also done three 10k walks to date. I have lost some weight. Now I am working toward more weight loss goals and on total body fitness. I am doing the January Jumpstart Challenge. Even though the daily video workouts need a lot of modification for me to complete them, I am not throwing my hands up in despair or defeat. I am plodding on.

ARCHIVED -- Milestone: One Year of Retirement. I have passed another mile marker. I have been retired for one year. In that year, I turned 65, I traveled, I moved out of the Midwest where work had taken me (and moved back to some heat), I began to get healthier, I gained and lost a little weight, etc. Now, I am looking forward to visiting with family arriving for my son's imminent wedding. After that, I'll figure out what's in store for me in my second year of retirement.

ARCHIVED - The New Normal: After three and a half years of serious medical issues that had me in and out of hospitals and surgeries and such, I am changed and need to rebuild muscle and then develop muscle strength. I also need to lose weight and increase energy. Since I have now retired and moved to Austin, Texas, I have time to put this Humpty Dumpty back together again and I can do it in an city that celebrates health and fitness. It will not be easy, and I won't be able to get to where I was before all this happened. I just want to be the best me that I can be.

Just a "little" addicted? lol I know what you mean though.....I'm hoping to get back to that because otherwise it is just too easy to put it off....too tired, too busy, bad weather, etc.

Have not seen that yet. Hope SparkPeople will continue to support for awhile. I may get a Fitbit at some point, but I like the simplicity and waterproof quality of the tracker. I am a little afraid of getting a Fitbit. It tracks more things and I have found I am getting a little addicted to walking and exercise.

Kathleen, have you seen the topic on the Spark Tracker team about trackers being sold out and unavailable, possibly discontinued? You should check that out. I am disappointed....I seem to often get in on something good just as it's being ended. Sigh.

Thanks for letting me know you got back safely.....I hope you are getting some restful sleep now....and no rain. We had wind & thunder & lightning & drenching rain tonight, but it didn't last long....think it was the tail end of one of the storms you had.
