From a fatty to a featherweight

Joined this site and lost 15 pounds fall 2011 semester, getting myself to under 200 for the first time since my sophomore year of high school. I got distracted and too busy by finals and combined with Christmas break I put 5 back on.

I came back and tracked everything and stayed focused to what I was trying to achieve. I lost 30 pounds to get myself down to 170 at the end of spring semester, there's still some fat in my stomache area, but I wouldn't say I'm really overweight ...

I lost 30 pounds to get myself down to 170 at the end of spring semester, there's still some fat in my stomache area, but I wouldn't say I'm really overweight anymore.

I moved down south for a summer internship, found a local Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym and fell in love with it. Then I had to get my weight down so that I could weigh in under 150lbs. I accomplished this and officially became a featherweight!

Now I'm trying to maintain just a couple pounds over that so I have an easy cut to make if I want to fight on any given weekend. Lifting hard and eating more to build muscle as well. Also need to learn to tame my binging monster. The journey continues.

I feel so much better and its really all thanks to finding this site

I like the new profile pic. It really shows what a change you have made and how healthy you have become. I am so glad to see when folks of the younger generation figure things out early instead of waiting until it is too late. Great job my young friend.

I wish I had seen your comment earlier. I probably should have eaten an actual meal instead of grazing all day. Next time, I'll try that.

Thanks for the reply.

I guess in the end it comes down to which thing you want more:

1) Pizza and beer with the guys

2) Keep/build muscle

Unfortunately for those of us who have strong, innate urges to eat more than we need, tempting pizza plus the disinhibiting effects of alcohol are a deadly combination. So the likelihood of just having a couple of pieces and a couple of beers (within your pre-determined calorie range) is unlikely to happen unless you do think about it and plan for it and strategize, and get your friends on board.

I have terrible problems with overeating in a social context and have gone to great lengths to minimize the damage. One Halloween I was particularly successful by wearing ridiculously high heels and stationing myself across the room from the food. It was so painful to walk in those things that it actually kept me from going over there to eat.

(But the shoes did look fabulous, LOL)

So yeah, it's IS likely going to take thought, creativity, and meticulous strategizing. This stuff isn't easy. If it were, there wouldn't be so many obese folks in our society.
