The kitchens are set...

(With a nod to Cupcake Wars)

The goodies are all here in my kitchen. I've got a gorgeous, retro-looking red stand mixer. I've got great new cookware, an instant-read probe thermometer, an immersion blender -- all the bells and whistles.

So now to start cooking. I need to learn to cook others' recipes first, then start developig my own. Right now, my flavor combinations don't work out the way I think they will, so I need practice and to learn how things will develop ...

I'm starting on program of nutritious cooking for myself, based on fresh and healthy ingredients. I'm also amping up my efforts at walking and stretching to regain strength and flexibility.

I'm 60 and I live in the California Wine Country. I have two kids, a disabled son in San Francisco (lives with his Dad) and a little angel-girl in Heaven.

Crowd out poor health habits. Choose activity before TV. Eat 3 veggies first for each meal. You will crowd out the less healthy choices.

The road to a healthier version of you may have many twists and turns. There may be detours and many tempting parking spots along the way. But, if you follow your map (an effective eating plan and physical training) and be aware of any trouble spots ahead by listening to traffic reports (mental conditioning and education), you will reach your desired destination (a healthy, maintainable weight). It may take you a little longer than you originally thought, but thatís ok. You want to enjoy your journey and, when the road is a bit slippery and treacherous, you want to be safe. Oh, and donít forget to stop and ask your SparkPals for directions when you get confuzzled along the way.
