Making the BEST of my LIFE NOW!

My name is Ramona. I am working on getting healthy and being more active. I have so many things I want to do now. Life has become more interesting and fun. I smile more. My son says I have blossomed out. I'm doing things now I never even dreamed of back in my 20's and 30's. I have set backs and then I move forward. My changes are many and varying but I'm loving them all.

Update May 14, 2014: This has been a rough year health wise so right now I'm looking more at my health issues ...

Update May 14, 2014: This has been a rough year health wise so right now I'm looking more at my health issues than anything. Trying to get back on track. Too many things have been happening that aren't helping me right now. Looking forward to to vacation in June and then again in September. Hopefully I'll be able to enjoy all the hiking we have planned.
2014: Looking forward to hitting the big 6-0 in September 2014. My plans are to get healthier and lose more of this weight. I'm still around 60 pounds shy of my goals but I'm working towards it now. Not waiting until tomorrow. I'm starting another year with a bad respiratory infection - I'm very prone to these. Looking forward to many new adventures this year.

2013: I ended the year just losing a couple of pounds as far as looking at 12/31/12 & 12/31/13 numbers. That didn't explain the 20+ pound weight gain and losing all that too. My head just wasn't in it. Too much stress in my life. I started the year sick with a respiratory infection 1/3/13 and ended the year with one. Not a good thing.
November 2013: I hit the 1300 miles walked milestone! I can't believe I've walked 1300+ miles since July 24, 2011. At least 75% of those miles my 11 year old dog, Precious, has walked with me.

September 2013 saw lots of walking on the beach with my best friends, Rhonda & Shawn and my one brother Scott. Hours of walking up and down the beach detouring into the Atlantic Ocean for a refreshing walk against the waves. Saw my Dad (who has Alzheimers) and youngest brother - they live in Florida. Good visit.

July 2013 update: While on vacation my brother, Scott and I visited the Great Smoky Mountains National Park three different times and did some hiking to waterfalls, which was gorgeous this year due to all the rain. We walked around Roan Mountain's rhododendron gardens on two different occasions also, once with our best friends, Shawn & Rhonda. Beautiful times with many wonderful memories. Went to the Cumberland Gap and did a short hike there also.

On May 2nd, 2013 I hit 1000.55 miles walked since July 24, 2011. I never thought I would do this! Woohoo!
Also on May 2nd, 2013 my son and I got a recumbent exercise bike. We totally love it! Woohoo!!!!

On March 18, 2013 I hit the 900 mile walked mark. Amazing. I never thought I'd do that. I'm looking forward to 1000 miles walked now! Join me on a virtual walk of the Appalachian Trail.

My dog, Precious, and I walk alot. I had slacked off everything for awhile but now (Feb) I'm trying to get myself back on track.
I discovered SP five years ago. It's been on and off until July 24, 2011 when I started back. I've faithfully logged all my food - even when I blew it totally and my fitness. Since July 24, 2011 I have walked my dog over 800 miles. As a result I'm doing a virtual hike of the Appalachian Trail for fun - check out my team! I can't wait to see what 2013 holds for me and what I learn about myself!

2012 was an interesting year for me. I've learned many things about myself and found out that I can do this. I just put one foot in front of the other and go. Walking is my thing. I love to be outside with my dog walking. I love new experiences too.

On July 2, 2012: I have also walked the 2.5 moderately difficult trail to Abrahms Falls in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee. Whew! That was a tough one for me because once I got there I had an asthma attack and couldn't catch my breath.

June 25, 2012: I have also walked a section on the MST - Mountain to Sea Trail in North Carolina at The Cascades.

June 23rd, 2012: I have walked a section on the Appalachian Trail! Woohoo - one of my goals!

Jan. 6th, 2012: I jogged for the first time since the 1970's! Wasn't for long but I did jog! Woohoo. Hopefully the weather will stay warm enough to where I can try it again on my next walk.

Dec. 9, 2011: I went to my doctor and he was amazed at my blood sugar readings when I showed him my log. He even said it was getting too low too often so he cut my one medication in half and left the other the same. So I'm on a lower dose of diabetic meds. How cool is that?!

I'm big on walking. I love to walk. I need to strength train and do other exercises. Right now if I get down in the floor - I'm down. I can't get up. I don't have the strength and flexibility to get myself up unless there's a chair seat to grab onto and get up on my knees holding something.

I'm always looking to make new friends. My hobbies include: genealogy, reading, crocheting & knitting when my hands cooperate (I have arthritis and carpal tunnel in both of them).

I love to cook and that hasn't helped me much because I am addicted to sweets. I have had recipes published in Southern Living's annual recipes and The Best of Country Cooking (1998 & 2011).

My Goals:
Remember that each day is a gift from God and cherish all my memories, friends and family.
Work towards improving my health. I've had many things crop up in 2014 that have blocked my path so I'm trying to develop a new system for working around them towards my goals. Slow but steady is my aim in 2014.



My Program:
Enjoy life and have fun.
Log in my daily food - no matter how badly I did that day, I want to hold myself accountable.
Walk with my dog, myself or with family and friends as often as the weather allows.
Work with Leslie Sansone videos, riding my recumbent exercise bike, using hand weights and resistance bands as my body allows. It's fighting me hard in 2014 with many injuries.

Personal Information:
I've been widowed and divorced in that order. I have a 22 year old son from my first marriage who's the light of my life.
I'm a genealogist for the family - self-appointed since no one else has the "time".
I love to knit or crochet when my hands allow it - arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome can wreck all that.
I love to grow plants like pineapple (I have a pineapple on one plant), tangerine trees, lemon trees and a tangelo tree. I have a banana tree also.
I'm trying my hand at growing my own garlic this year (2014)
I love to make jellies, jams and relishes. I love to cook and experiment with food.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life so make the most of it.

In November 27, 2007 I weighed my heaviest at 278 pounds .

Here are my goals for my weight:
These are weights from back in the 1970s when I last saw them. I can't wait to see them again!
198 pounds last saw in 1978
178 pounds back in 1976
154 pounds at graduation June 7, 1972
My goal weight according to my BMI is under 145. I'm not sure how this will play out but I'm wanting to get down to my graduation weight at least.
