Difficult things take a long time, impossible things a little longer

UPDATE: October 2, 2012
When I first started this journey two months ago, I was in a desperate place emotionally and mentally. I still have the same goals but now I've added a new goal: Joy. I want to embrace and experience this life. Getting physically fit is making is making that dream closer to a reality.

I'm honestly proud of the progress I've made simply because I've stuck with it since June and I honestly never stick to anything. Usually I get bored and move along. ...

I've met so many amazing people on here and reading their posts encourages me every day. Their small and large accomplishments keep me going and their failures/defeats give me the ability to be more kind to myself because I realize we all face obstacles.

Welcome and please feel free to add me as a friend. Especially if you live in my home state of New Mexico.
------------------------------------
Hi. I'm Elaine and turning 40, I realized there were so many things in life I hadn't done or resisted doing because of my weight. I don't want to spend the rest of my life missing out because I wasn't willing to put in the hard work to lose weight.

I've also realized a big reason I've failed every time I tried was that I didn't put myself and my weight loss first. It was always my personal relationships that took the top spot. Getting out of a terrible relationship where I had to do everything for this person made me realize what a bad, destructive habit putting yourself last can be and it can have terrible consequences.

This time I'm determined and will not apologize or feel guilty for saying no because it interferes with my goal to lose weight.

My Goals:
To finally embrace a healthy, realistic lifestyle that sticks. Learn to forgive myself and stop doing things for other people at the expense of my own well being.

My Program:
I work out five times a week, lifting weights at least two times. I alternate between the gym and outdoors walks because nature inspires me.

As for food, I'm slowly learning to eat better. I'm not sweating it too much because in the past, this part has stressed me out and made me give up. Sometimes I don't know what I'm doing but instead of getting frustrated, I just focus on one thing I can learn and then move on to the next.

Right now I'm reducing my portion sizes, red meat and fast food. However, I'm a pretty good cook so not eating all the time can be difficult. lol

Personal Information:
I'm a big, fat nerd and I don't mind it a bit. I live in beautiful New Mexico and currently make my living as a writer. I have one son who is a sophomore in high school. Sometimes I get so sad and so nervous about what I will do when he leaves me for college. My whole life for 16 years has been about him. Part of the reason I'm doing this is to start building a life for myself outside the role of mother.

Other Information:
I love to read, I love being outside, I love crowds, I love to dance to really loud music, I love to laugh and I love the ocean.

I also love my state and its people and my very large and awesome extended family. They all live here and are pretty much my entire world. I can't see myself living anywhere else, but if I did, it would be somewhere in Orange County, New Orleans or New York.

I also have a large network of awesome male and female friends. They make my life amazing.
