I'm Diane, also known as Rissa. I am on disability for bipolar and other issues. I'm not ashamed of it- I'm proud! I work hard to overcome my issues and I do want to go get my Master's or a Nursing Practitioner degree and go back to work. I went to USC and graduated with a Biology degree! I'm proud of that, too!

I try and walk or bike at least a couple miles a day at least 3-4 times a week, with my latest record being 6.7 miles in a day! I can't wait until I can run again... I used to run Cross-Country and was doing 5k's on hills in 33 minutes. I live in Los Angeles where I grew up.

I managed to lose weight and keep it off in 2017! I am now at my lowest weight since my early 20's, (as of 12/16/17 I'm 212.6) My goal in 2018 will be to not only get to Onederland, but to get to the 170's. I also will train for a 10K in April. I did a Suicide Prevention Walk in November (5k) and raised over $200. I need to get out there and train more so I can run part of that 10K!

I am in the Cloverleafs for the Winter 5% Challenge, and they have motivated me and helped me get into the low 210's and hopefully by the end of the Challenge I will be finally be in Onederland again which was my weight when I was in my teens!! My highest weight was in the 280's, so I have lost over 70 pounds with Spark People!!!!

My Goals:
I would like to be in the 160 pound range, and to be able to *run* a 5k again. I walked one in November 2017! My ultimate goal is to run a marathon.


My Program:
I started the Ketogenic Diet on 4/20/17 at over 241 pounds. As of 12/16 I'm at 212.6! No sugar, extremely limited carbs (20 a day), and high fat. I have a fatty liver, and this was recommended to me by my doctor. I also was borderline diabetic, but my A1c dropped from 5.7 to 5.3 in a month of my diet. It really does work!

    Rissa, I will have to try that Ginger Pear White Tea from Trader Joe's. Right now I am drinking To go Honey Lavender Stress Relief Tea. They donated 1500 tea bags for the care bags we give people who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer. I am testing it since I am "adventurous", says one co-worker. LOL

    Rissa, thanks for the Spotlight wishes.

    The monastery is in Hingham, Massachusetts. A priest friend introduced me to it in 1977 to help me find some peace when my dad was dying of cancer. I hadn't been there in 25+ years. When this priest friend died in July, I needed to find peace & reconnect my soul with G-d. Spending a day there was healing. Can't wait to return in April.
