My background is a plate of dragon fruit that we ate while in Hawaii in 2009. Yummy, and beautiful! I''m a wife and aunt, and a cyclist and runner. I started seriously using spark people because I needed to control my cholesterol before my doctor decided to turn to medicine. Then the cholesterol seemed fine but my blood sugar kept coming in high. So I was going to track that and work on it. But this year (2015) went sideways in April when I was diagnosed with cancer and then again in May ...
My background is a plate of dragon fruit that we ate while in Hawaii in 2009. Yummy, and beautiful! I''m a wife and aunt, and a cyclist and runner. I started seriously using spark people because I needed to control my cholesterol before my doctor decided to turn to medicine. Then the cholesterol seemed fine but my blood sugar kept coming in high. So I was going to track that and work on it. But this year (2015) went sideways in April when I was diagnosed with cancer and then again in May when surgery showed it was stage 4 signet ring cell carcinoma. Median survival is 4 years after diagnosis. Suddenly my cholesterol and blood sugar don''t matter. I also ended up with colon issues due to the tumor so I lost a total of 60 pounds between January and August. At 80 pounds we cried emergency and finally got TPN which is IV nutrition. And I visited yet another doctor who is trying things to increase my absorption of nutrition from food I eat. It seems to be working! I now know I don''t have long and I am determined to make the most of it. I am blessed with an amazing husband who delights in taking care of me and is right by my side through all of this. My theme verse for the year has become: to live is Christ to die is gain. I''m good however and whenever this journey ends.
