Learning to dance in the rain...

I have BED (Binge Eating Disorder) and became ill with CHD(Congestive Heart Disease) in October/November 2003. I have BED (Binge Eating Disorder) and became ill with CHD(Congestive Heart Disease) in October/November 2003. Until then I was a full-time carer for my only child Katie who died in 2004, aged 14, from CHF (congestive heart failure) caused by secondary pulmonary hypertention and a congenital heart defect.

My recovery was very slow and frustrating and I also now have arthritis in my left hip and both knees which restricts my mobility, caused by a serious road accident in 1984 and years of being obese.

My goal was to find a job working with computers, so I studied for and passed my CompTIA A+ exams in 2006.

I was an IT Volunteer at our local Hospice for just over a year and then worked as an ICT Technician in a local School... before my job was cut due to the Government austerity measures. I'm currently studying bookkeeping and accounts and am looking for a new job.

I had a gastric bypass in January 2009 after losing 86lbs to reach my pre-surgery target weight (BMI 50 or less). Due to health problems and depression I put 21lbs back on but lost it again in the short run up to my surgery. During the operation my surgeon discovered that I had a very large hiatus hernia which was restricting my heart and lungs and was likely responsible for causing my otherwise unexplaned CHD.

My weight plateaued after a fall injured my "good" knee and caused my arthritis to flare up which prevented me exercising and following the loss of my job in the austerity cuts I regained 55lbs due to depression. I am now back on track nutritionally and trying to build up a regular program of activities to help me with my weight loss.

I'm on the Worship Team at church, but have had to give up drumming for the moment due to wrist problems. I also hope to return to helping with the children's ministry on Sundays and during school holidays at some point in the future when I feel more able.

A friend of mine once described me as "driven"... he was probably right, but I'm learning to let go and let God after renewing my faith and my confirmation in December 2008.

Life is very busy and not always good but generally I'm happier now and enjoying it. My goals this year are to find a new job, get more active and get my weight down to 200lbs... or less! LOL!

My Goals:
My long-term goal is to be fit enough to work full-time and pass my accountancy qualifications.

My Program:
I originally lost 188lbs between 2006 and 2010. Sadly due to health problems and depression I put 55lbs back on but have now lost 10lbs of that since new year and am back on track to lose the 50-60lbs I want to finally get rid of.

I struggle with exercise because of my disabilty but I keep trying to build a regular routine.

Personal Information:
I live in the UK.

I trained in Martial Arts in my twenties and was a member of a Dark Age re-enactment society, riding my motorcycle to events. After a serious road accident I gave up and have gradually developed osteoarthritis.

My daughter died in 2004 and my sister the previous year, following a road accident. My father also died from a heart attack in 1991.

I've had various jobs and currently searching for a new one in accounting.

Other Information:
I gained my BSc in 2000.

SHYLONESTAR: I'm just busy and don't get the opportunity to blog very often but I'm still around. My weight will probably always be an ongoing issue but I won't let it rule my life.
