Liberty Walk for Life

In April of 2013, I adopted a new lifestyle. My goal was to become as fit and healthy as I could be. My rule was to adopt only those changes that I could maintain for life.

I can hardly believe where I am now in January of 2014. Just two pounds shy of my ideal body weight (something I never dreamed possible!), I am more fit than I have ever been. Ever!

I can hardly believe where I am now in January of 2014. Just two pounds shy of my ideal body weight (something I never dreamed possible!), I am more fit than I have ever been. Ever!

I am a runner!!!

I bike, kayak, walk, hike, snowshoe and zumba. I'm soon to be a backpacker! I play soccer with my teenage sons...and they're not embarrassed (much)!

Best of all, my husband enjoys and participates in most of these activities with me. Whenever possible, we've included our friends and family as well. Our lives are so, so much richer because of it.

My Background:

I love to learn new things. Over the years, I have learned how to cook, garden, landscape, sew, quilt, crochet, knit, make soap, make candles, make paper, spin wool into yarn(!), raise chickens, juggle, play guitar, ride a unicycle, grind wheat into flour...the list is extensive and hopefully will continue to grow.

I have lived in two countries and four states. My husband and I love Wisconsin!

I went to seven colleges or universities and have degrees in liberal arts, chemistry, and pharmacy.

Words of wisdom: Envision who you want to be and don't ever doubt for a second that you can become that person. Your thoughts are more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

My Goals:
Goal #1: Run a 5K. Done.
Goal #2: Maintenance.

My Program:
Food: Five mini meals every three hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Each meal usually consists of protein, fruit or veg, and whole grain. Minimal amount of processed food. Variety, variety, variety.

Fitness: Run 45 min every other day. Flexibility, strength training, and a variety of other activities on off days. One or two rest days per week.

Personal Information:
I received a wake-up call in April, 2013, in the form of a health scare. I had a bucket list for "someday", and that list required me to be fit and healthy. Someday is NOW.

Other Information:
The beautiful dog shown in the photos is a rescue named Bella, and she has been my walking companion for 13 years. Sadly, she is slowing down now. Love her.

Love your dog; have one just like her! Jackson is 11 and slowing down too but still enjoys our desert hikes. Border collie/aussie mix is the best!!

Love the picture of your dog and reading that she is your walking buddy. So sad when they start to age and slow down. Good that you have found ways to stay active and get out and exercise. Believe me, it gets much harder when you are in your 60s/70s -- there may be the "will" to do active things, but the body just balks at anything too adventuresome or stressful or strenuous! Keep up your goals -- you are an inspiration to all of us! emoticon

You're fit and healthy at at your ideal weight. This is a lovely place to be. Had you ever had trouble keeping fit? If not, what will you be using at Sparks that you don't already?
