In April of 2013, I adopted a SUSTAINABLE new lifestyle.

My "simple" rules for a healthy diet:

1. Eat (mostly) unprocessed food.
2. Choose variety, variety, variety.
3. Eat when hungry.

My advice to anyone seeking to lose weight:

1. Do not engage in any weight loss "gimmick" that you are not willing to maintain for the rest of your life.
2. Increase your physical activity.
3. See "simple" rules above.

Your healthy weight will then find you.

Words of wisdom: Envision who you want to be and don't ever doubt for a second that you can become that person. Your thoughts are more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

Fitness Minutes: 13,407

My Goals:
Goal #1: Race a 5K. Done.
Goal #2: Run a 10K. Done.
Goal #3: Maintenance. In process.


My Program:
Food: I follow the three simple rules noted in my introduction. I tend to be hungry every three hours or so, so I eat five or six mini-meals a day.

Exercise: I run four or five days a week and am planning to run my first half-marathon in the Fall. I also try to incorporate as much activity as possible into my days. As with food, I find variety to be a very important component of any exercise program. I walk, bike, kayak, snowshoe, backpack, hike, and cross-country ski.



Personal Information:
I have lived a life of variety. I have lived in another country and in multiple states; I have graduated from or attended seven different colleges or universities; I have had a couple of careers; and I have had numerous hobbies and interests.

Today, I am a recent empty nester making plans for a future that offers as much (or more) adventure than the past.

The constants in my life are my husband of 27 years and the need to be vigilant about my health. I was an overweight/obese teenager, but lost weight after graduating from high school. Exercise has been a part of my life ever since. My weight still fluctuates, but I do my best to keep it at a healthy BMI.


Other Information:
The beautiful dog shown in the photos is a rescue named Bella, and she was my walking companion for 13 years. Sadly, at the advanced age of 15, she has slowed down considerably. Love her.
Update: We had to say goodbye to our beloved Bella in March, 2017. She was 17. RIP.

    I love that your dog was your motivation and walking companion...I myself just got a puppy and at only 6 months old he is more often then not pulling ME down the road haha I hope that my furry friend motivates me like yours does :)
