Come, sit down and have a cup of tea while we get to know each other!

Hope you enjoy your stay!

With the season of Autumn comes cool crisp days and nights, along with the bountiful harvest of the fruits of our labors.
For me it has also meant a lot of changes in my life.

I have a bible verse to share that means a lot to me right now...

1 Corinthians 10:13
"No trial has overtaken you that is not faced by others. And God is faithful: He will not let you be tried beyond what you are able to bear, but with the trial will also provide a way out so that you may be able to endure it"

The past year has had its share of trials and tribulations for me.
I recently received a diagnosis of arthritis in my knees.
I am learning how important it is to stay close to the Lord during these trials that I am facing. For I can do nothing without His help.
God is calling me to become closer to Him as I deal with the challenges that arthritis brings.

My Goals:
Revised goals for 2015

To put God first in my life where He belongs and live my life the way He wants me to.

Daily Bible Reading and prayer time.

To continue living a healthy lifestyle.

To get a good night's sleep on a consistent basis.

Keep my priorities in order.
To return to a simple lifestyle.

Immediate weight loss goals:
Lose weight regained 5 lbs at a time


My Program:
Continue to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night.

Exercise and nutrition commitment:
Keep to a heart healthy dietary regimen. I need to stay on a low sodium, low sugar and low protein diet. Keep my calorie intake between 1200-1400 per day, and my sugar intake below 25mg./day.

Use stationary bike at least 10 minutes/day.
Do my exercises from PT each day.
Find fun and new ways to keep active while dealing with arthritis in my knees.

I am 60 years old and live in Washington State.
I have been married for 37 years, have four adult sons and one adult daughter..
At last count our pets included one cat and one dog.

I have been a homeschooling mom for
almost 30 years, and it is soon coming to an end with my daughter's participation in the running start program at the local community college.

    Sue- I am so proud of you for changing your diet and exercise to help your OA. I need to change to an anti inflammatory diet also. I have OA in my neck and RA elsewhere. First thing in the morning, I put Blu Emu pain cream on my neck and do neck exercises. You can look online for knee exercises to do. I have worn elastic support on my knees when inflammed. It took a few tries with different types to get the support that was comfortable and helped. Elevating your leg, ice, and rest can be helpful too. An epson salts bath can bring relief. I have also had fluid drained from my knees. Keep working with your doctor and trying things at home. I hope you find pain relief. emoticon

    Hi Sue,

    I hadn't been on Spark a lot during the holidays, either, and I gained 5 pounds. Starting over again to try to get it right. Could have been a lot worse.

    Still working at the library part-time and enjoying it a lot. In February I'll be learning how to repair books. In a couple of weeks I'm meeting up with another Spark friend to listen to a presentation on the Year of Mercy declared by Pope Francis for us Catholics. I'm excited. About the presentation, and about meeting one of my Spark friends in person.

    Other than that, waiting for Spring and Summer. I've decided I do not like winter, even when it's a mild one. I miss walking and being in the fresh air and sunshine. Having a part time job has helped me keep my sanity.

    Do you know SparkPeople has a Managing Arthritis Center? If you haven't already checked that out, you might go there for some other exercise ideas. You can get there by letting your cursor hover over the Articles & Videos tab, then scroll down to Health & Wellness. A new menu will open to the right, where you can select Arthritis - it is the 2nd option in that menu.

    You are always so busy! Have a wonderful time with the family. Birthdays were always a big celebration in my family. We had so much fun!

    Last week I got my new roof put on. emoticon And got my new washer and dryer delivered. And got my car back from the garage. I think that was last week. The car may have been the week before. The roofer came over yesterday to comb the dents out of the air conditioner. This week I'll have 20 hours in at the library. Sunday I'm checking out a handyman to see if he can help me out with a few minor repairs in the house. I'm just no good at that stuff.

    Mom is doing well. I try to get in a little reading here and there, and I have a pile of yarn on the floor in the living room waiting to be made into a blanket. Always something. Makes life interesting. emoticon
