Live, Love and be Healthy

Hi and Welcome to my Spark Page.
My name is Jackie and I started my journey on March 25, 2008.

I initially found Spark People through another website and decided to look into it. It was free and I had nothing to lose except for the extra weight I was carrying around.
After getting married in 2002 to my wonderful husband, I moved in with him and his 2 young sons. Suddenly having a family with children was new to me and a little overwhelming at times to say the least, and I found myself turning to food to deal with all the new found stress. Of course, that didn't solve anything. But, it was a pattern I would continue for the next several years.
When I came upon the Spark People website that day, I was so ready for a change.
I absorbed everything I could by reading the articles, participating on my Spark Teams, and using the Nutrition and Fitness Trackers. They were a godsend.
I started out slowly, but I kept at it. I knew I didn't put on the weight overnight and it wasn't going to come off overnight.
When I started seeing results, that spurred me on to add more cardio to my workout. After a couple of months, I also added strength training to my workout routine.

It was and still is a lot of hard work, but it's SO WORTH IT!
I am healthier, I am back into my regular size clothes again, and I am so much more aware of what I am putting into my mouth.

I reached my goal weight on August 2, 2008 and have maintained it ever since.
Presently, I do cardio 5 times a week and strength training 3 times a week.
Life can get very hectic, but it's also full of choices. I choose to be healthy and take care of me. If I am healthy, I can better take care of my family. So, no matter how busy I am, I find time for exercise. It's my gift to me! It's all about choices.
I still have some days where I indulge more than I should but I don't beat myself up about it. I just keep moving.

So, to new members and to members who feel discouraged, don't give up. Use all the great resources Spark has to offer. If I can offer any words of wisdom, it would be to just keep plugging away. You WILL reach your goal. Stay determined and if you stumble along the way, just get back up and keep moving forward. YOU CAN DO IT!
The support from Spark People and my Spark Friends has been paramount in helping me reach my goals. Thank you all!

*I quit smoking on October 9, 2009 and I am very proud of that. But, I have gained 20 pounds in doing so. And in 2011 I started going through menopause and gained another 5 pounds. I have been struggling to lose this added weight and return to my goal weight.

My Goals:
Lose 34 pounds, tone up and be healthy and fit for life.

I reached my goal of 112 on 8/2/08!!
Now I plan on continuing with my exercise and healthy eating.

I quit smoking on 10/9/09 which I am so happy about but have been struggling since then with some weight gain (about 25 lbs). I also started menopause and weight just doesn't want to budge.

My Program:
I use an elliptical trainer 5 times per week for cardio and do strength training on a Soloflex 3 times per week.

I make healthier food choices and track my food, thanks to SparkPeople.

Personal Information:
I am married with two step sons, ages 23 and 17. The youngest one still lives with us. I was a stay at home Mom for 7 years but started working part time Sept. 08.
We live in Northern Kentucky near Cincinnati, Ohio.
I have been a vegetarian since 1988.

Other Information:
Our Great Dane Isis (12/2/01-1/10/12) recently crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. We have two cats, Angus (Gray, Long Hair) and Phoenix (Orange Tabby). Their pictures are in my photo gallery.

And to answer your question - the new house is 2 hours away. It's back in the town that we lived in for 8 years before we moved out to the Poconos. The best part is that the house is one mile from our old house... so we'll be very close to our friends :)

Thanks for the fruit salad! Just a simple reminder that I need to make good choices. Boy have I been having the busiest week ever. Both of my boys are graduating emoticon (kindergarten and high school), I'm chaperoning a field trip, my church is hosting two different events back to back that I'm a part of, and I have to fit in work, sleep, and oh yeah - eating right too! emoticon

Thanks for being kind. Unfortunately, no, there aren't much for resources to help me. I've been begging for help for 3 years and the best the county/state can offer doesn't fit my actual needs. So I fall apart because I can't do everything for myself but have little or no help. Plus no mental health help can help me feel better when the physical issues aren't really being addressed. (It's like telling someone to not be afraid of falling then having them walk blindfolded into the street.)

I hope you are able to get the help you need to figure out your pain and medical issues. Like I said in my comment, be sure to get multiple opinions because doctors can have wildly different opinions based on their training, history with patients, prejudices for/against different theories and procedures, and even what's happening in their personal lives. Ask questions. Get information about your case and do research online. The more you know the better your decision will be. Also, don't be afraid to try non-medical treatments like massage, acupuncture, relaxation, color imagery, etc. (With my conditions I've had/will have back/head/neck/joint/all over pain every day for most of my life and it's incurable and progressive, so I've tried a variety of options to get some relief. I know more about my conditions than my doctors - hence the research - so I know that I can't rely on only 1 type of 'treatment' to help.) Best wishes you'll get it figured out soon and find some relief.
