Gearing up for the 5% Fall Challenge to start Sept. 24th! It's been an interesting summer.

So now the 5% Summer Challenge starts! Not sure why I signed up, except that I like the team I'm on. They're a pretty active, positive bunch. I've been at this for 9 years apparently and I'm at a higher weight than when I started. I will take stock of just what I'm doing and what I did when I lost the original weight and get this taken care of! It's just one of those small annoyances that you CAN live with, but would rather NOT!

5% Winter & Spring Challenges weren't much better!

5% Fall Challenge was a TOTAL failure! I gained even more! Same goals for the Winter round; just keep pluggin' away!

5% Fall Challenge starts Sept. 26th!
I've continued to gain for the last couple years but I've upped the exercise the last month and am getting a handle on the excess calories. Looking to lose 7 - 10 pounds in 8 weeks!

Well, here it is a new year! I've been saying for the last 2 years that THIS would be my year and all I've done is gain weight.
Tom and I have spent the last year moving and getting him fixed up and, 3 surgeries later, we're ready to have a great year. Plans for this year include 2 trips to Iowa to see his only grandchild and one trip to WY to visit with some of my family. I WILL lose the weight this year.

I've been a member of Spark for several years and it's all sinking in, slowly. I'm getting much better at portion control and only eating when I'm hungry. Also making sure that I don't keep a lot of snack food in the house. It's certainly a lifestyle change for the better.

Update 3/22/14
Finally found a new job! Not really where I want to be, but definitely better than where I was. I'm currently driving 50 miles one-way to work but trying to find a house to rent or get a loan to buy one closer.
I've continued to gain because I just can't seem to stay off the 'liquid calories' (beer, energy drink, and Coke). Getting better though!

Saw your post on the 5% Buzzing around the airport thread & just had to stop by, check out the animal pics and say emoticon We used to have a dairy farm, and later beef cattle, now just run a few for "fun" with a neighbour's herd. As you may know, farmers & ranchers never really retire completely! Wishing you every success in meeting your goals. emoticon

Hi Lisa! Thanks for your note. The judge's breakfast was started in town about 20 years ago by the local judge (go figure) who is now retired. It started with just a few people and has grown to about 40 in attendance each week. It's very informal - no dues or membership. There is a co-host each month that puts together the list of speakers, usually around a common theme. This month's program was all about the local elections, with three Thursdays of city council candidates, one with the county supervisor candidates, and one for the ballot measures. Another month the topic might be air quality or city development projects. It all depends on the co-host. It is held at a local restaurant, everyone buys their own breakfast, and a basket is passed around and everyone puts in $1, which pays for breakfast for the hosts and the guest speakers. If you look at the attendees, you'd think you were at a Rotary meeting, because many of them belong to that other group, which has a lot more rules and dues and stuff. I really enjoy the judge's breakfast, except for the getting out of the house early part. Haha!
