I'm a sugar addict in recovery trying to change my lifestyle by exercising more and choosing healthy foods. I've been heavy most of my life and I'm getting to the point where enough is enough. Through learning about addictions at my internship with my county's drug court program, I recognized that the same behaviors I see in clients I see in myself when it comes to sugar. It is very difficult for me to resist sweet foods and I believe that I often indulge in them when I really need to deal with tough emotions. So, my plan is to become more aware of how I use food, specifically sugary foods, to medicate my feelings.

My Goals:
My goal right now is really to just get healthier overall. At my last check up, I was told I was pre-diabetic which means it's time to get serious!


My Program:
I've been on one diet after another since I was about 12 years old. So, diets are out. I have decided simply to only put a food in my mouth that offers my body some health benefit. I plan to listen to my body for when I'm hungry or not and be aware of what I am thinking and feeling before, during and after eating. I plan to journal this so I can see if any patterns of emotional eating exist as well.



Personal Information:
My name is Lauren and I'm from Tampa, FL. I am currently in graduate school finishing up my internship. When I graduate, I will have a masters in mental health counseling. My internship focuses on substance abuse, so I plan to use what I have learned for helping addicts with my own dependency on sugar.


Other Information:
Other hobbies include: music (playing and listening), learning Spanish, cooking, baking, playing with my kitties and hanging out with friends.
