"Have you always been fat?"

So now I am one year away from turning 50. I've lost about 40 of the 140 pounds that I wanted to lose before that event, so now I have a year to do it.

Even though I have not made that goal yet, I don't consider the past year and a half a loss: I have learned so much about how I lose weight, about what does and doesn't work for me. And I know I can use that knowledge to have a successful last year in my 40s.

Someone at work recently said this to me, whispering the word "fat" as if by not hearing it, no one else would notice the extra 100+ pounds I am carrying around.

So I am back, after a long period away. I dabbled in the 4 Hour Body diet, during which I lost 43 pounds, but finally floundered as I could not sustain the no/low carb lifestyle permanently. I currently live in West Africa, which adds to the eating issues as yams and fried foods are the dietary staple of the area. Veggies are lack-luster and limited, but the pineapple is some of the best I have ever eaten.

I am turning 50 in 2.5 years and would like to enter that decade at a healthy weight, which means a loss of about 140 pounds. I can do that.

Track absolutely everything that goes in my mouth.

During the work week, make breakfast and lunch the evening before, and track them ahead of time, so that there are no choices to be made when I am hungry and cranky.

Use the Fitbit to track walking and work on getting in 10,000 steps a day.

Continue going to Zumba class twice a week.

Get in the pool at least twice a week.

Commit to a primarily plant-based diet.

After wondering what's wrong with me for an hour, I've got the answer: hormones. Chilling for a week or two would definitely be the smart thing to do :)

I think my reaction to Pinterest depends totally on my mood. While I sit, eating cookies and swilling wine, I should probably not look at fitness stuff.
