Success in life as in chess is determined by the choices we make.

Jamaican jerk chicken is incredibly spicy and delicious. This man prepared and served it with flair.

I began my journey with SparkPeople September 28,2011 the day I became sober. I had joined several times previous to that, but gave up......the dangerous pattern I had followed for too many years. The adverse effects of alcohol abuse began to take their toll on my mind , spirit, and body. I became aware of the fact I was slowly dying and destroying my life. I, like other recovering alcoholics, finally sunk to the very bottom of the cesspool of alcohol addiction. Overweight, bloated, depressed, erratic in behavior and thought, i made a decision to get sober once and for all. I sank to my knees in my bedroom and asked for God's help. He provided everything I needed to sustain me through a very difficult withdrawal. During this detox, I made a Bucket List which consisted of promises I made to God if He should allow me to become sober and live to fulfill these promises.

The first thing I did was to search for support groups for alcoholics. I found Living Above the Influence which did play an important role in supporting my recovery. I am currently a member of Recovering Alcoholics which I just joined recently.

After I became sober and well enough to exercise, I focused on weight loss and fitness. i competed in local 5ks and have enjoyed different fitness activities. Throughout this process, SparkPeople has supported and still supports me each and every day. I still track and post each day of sobriety on my SparkPage.

I have lost 100 pounds and am constantly looking for healthy recipes and new fitness opportunities. I think the renewing of our minds is a very important process in the joy of living. In my house there are several Live Laugh Love picture frames and plaques representing the joy of living a sober life. I have joined
The Walking Sparklers and Kettlebells teams.

I wear a pendant daily from AA which is a beautiful silver triangle inside a circle representing the Recovery, Service, and
Unity which creates a whole person, the Circle. I thank God each day for being sober.

I am a member of a blue grass gospel band which ministers monthly to ten nursing/retirement homes. I also crochet hats for local chemo patients. God has provided me opportunities to give back and live a meaningful life. For this I am very grateful. I have joined two Spark music teams, Christian Lovers Music Lovers and Music Makers. I am also a new member of Christian Needlecrafters.

My achievements are minimal, but important to me, when I read the SparkPages of so many SparkFriends who have endured so much more and are true inspirations to me. However, I did want to share a bit of my story with you as a way to introduce myself.

I love my koi pond. As I began my sobriety journey, I gave my newly purchased koi meaningful and symbolic names: Sobriety Rocks, Serenity Bling, Wisdom, Courage, Amazing Joy, Mountain Mania ( a 5k where I placed first for my age group),Unity, Recovery. and Service. It is joy to care for these fish. Their growth represents my growth in the areas represented by their namesakes.

I am new to gardening, but as with my koi pond, I enjoy being outside and watching plants grow. My son bullt me a garden frame last year. This is my venture into gardening along with several large pots for vegetables. I have joined the Spark Team Gardening.

There is joy bubbling in my soul each and every day thanks to sobriety and my Higher Power. I am forever grateful.

Being bililingual, English and Spanish, I have also joined Sparkpeople en Espaol & Ingls which affords me the opportunity to communicate in both languages. I travel to Akumal, Mexico frequently to savor the beauty of the Yucatan Peninsula and enjoy the opportunity to speak Spanish.

After seeking and submitting to our higher power, the Lord God Almighty, there is no greater strength than that which we find within ourselves. By His stripes we arehealed. Through his Amazing Love (John 3:16) He give us unspeakable joy. allowing us to remain serene in a chaotic world, Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.

God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot
change, Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom
to know the difference.

Dios, concdeme la Serenidad para aceptar las cosas que
no puedo cambiar, Valor para cambiar aquellas que s puede y Sabidura para reconocer la diferencia.
