Determination + Hard Work = Success

If I can do this, you can too!

Why didn't anyone warn me that the "freshman 15" applies to marriage too!?

As I approached my all time highest # on the scale the day after Christmas '07, I decided it was time to put the brakes on the weight climb. I had finally taken the "no longer dieting for the wedding" thing a little too far. With only 3 pairs of work/dress pants left fitting, and 5-day work weeks returning after the holidays, it was time to take action.

In steps Spark People.

Baby steps first. I did a few weeks of the South Beach Diet and just tracked my exercise and weight. Then I started logging calories -- what a learning experience! Then I added using the measuring tape along with the scale to measure progress. Then tracking fruit & veggie servings. Here I am now: lots of pounds lighter and much happier with my body. I love this site -- particularly the useful tracking tools and the great sense of community.

~~~
Today is the last day of April '08 and I have lost 25 lbs. on Spark People. 25 lbs! I'm not sure I honestly believed I could get here when I started this journey, but the closer I got, the more I believed.
Losing weight can be a bit of an emotional roller coaster, but stay the course and most importantly, believe in yourself. Reach for support when you need it, and you'll be surprised how many hands reach out to help you back up.
Next goal: 135
I think I want to keep a range of 135-139 for my general lifestyle, but I need to get to 135 first and then see how I feel, and also I will have my body fat calculated again. Ultimate body fat goal - 19%
Never give up!! :-)
My Goals:
The pounds were really just an estimate to go by; what I really wanted was to fit into my "skinny" clothes again, feel good about myself, and look great in a bathing suit. Now my former "skinny" clothes are too big! I am hoping to learn to portion control when I'm in a weight-maintaining mode, but I'm not there just yet. My other goal for this "new me" is to be a positive person -- to see the glass as half full as frequently as I can. Life is too short to not really enjoy all those little moments that make you smile.
My Program:
I aim for daily cardio and weight lifting, anticipating that the rest of life will sometimes get in the way. If you don't have a set of Bally adjustable dumb bells for your house, you need them! A frequent cardio routine for me is about 60 min. of bike/stairclimber/elliptical/treadmill circuit or running outside. I play both outdoor and indoor soccer which is my best calorie burning workout. I've also started doing some small races to push me more in my running. So the basic idea is that I try to do something active every day, with a day or two of rest each week.
I am following a diet of higher protein/lower carbs and trying to stay within my calorie range every day (about 1300-1600). To drop the weight initially, I logged every bite I took, and it worked! I cannot emphasize enough what a great tool the nutrition tracker is!
Personal Information:
I'm a 5'7", 30 year old married chick living in the greater Boston area.
I used to be an emotional eater and a social eater, but I'm working on this. I am athletic which I used to use as an excuse to eat whatever I wanted, but clearly that was NOT working for me anymore! I am changing my ways and taking control of my eating habits.
Other Information:
I have a myriad of interests including but not limited to: travel (especially international), soccer (indoor and out), running (outside), speaking Spanish (and attempting to learn other languages), baking (this is tricky when trying to stay thin), all things Maine (I'm living in exile), and spending time with my best friend (that sweetheart of a guy that happens to also be my husband).
