I have followed the lifestyle from the You On A Diet book by Drs. Oz and Roizen for the past five years. My health greatly improved following this approach for example I eliminated high blood pressure and pre-diabetes. However, my weight loss was very difficult and limited. In October 2011, I decided that I needed more tools to lose weight and began to explore the possibility of Lap Band or Roux en Y (gastric bypass ) surgery.

I had gastric bypass on July 11, 2012. It was the right decision for me. I continue all my healthy habits from You On A Diet and workout daily. I am losing weight slowly, not as fast as some people lose with the surgery, but I am very satisfied with my progress.

Based on an article by Becky Hand the weight for a woman of average height 5'3"- I'm 5'3", based on the different BMI ranges is as follows:
Overweight BMI of 25-30 = 141-169 pounds I plan to leave this category by 12/31/2013.
Grade 1 Obesity BMI of 30-35 =169-197 pounds. Plan to leave this category by 8/22/2013.
Grade 2 & 3 Obesity BMI of more than 35 = 197+ pounds. Plan to leave this category by 3/1/2013.

I spend time with my dogs - a black Labrador and a black lab/border collie mix. I get in lots of my added exercise time at the dog parks. I'm also an avid gardener.
