~~~~~~~~Intro...when I started in January 2008~~~~~~
Hi, I'm a 31 yr. old proud mother of two beautiful children. The last 3 years have been a great challenge due to a sciatic nerve issue that I developed soon after the birth of my first child. Prior to this, I was a very active personal trainer and life coach. Although, life has been challenging and I have had some real down moments, I have always tried to be optimistic. It's been a slow process but truly things have gotten much better and are improving steadily. My pain had gotten so bad that I wasn't able to work anymore and at times could barely get off the couch to care for my daughter. I did only the absolute minimal. Trust me when I say, I tried everything to get better but the doctors couldn't seem to help me. I decided to put my trust in God and it was the best decision I ever made. I count my blessings everyday that I have been blessed with another child (6 mos.) and am able to do most anything I want to. I am just now starting to exercise again and am so pumped to do so. Count your blessings when you have the ability to be active....it truly means everything. After the past 3 years and two children later I am happy to say I'm now planning to get back on track with my fitness and health habits. I am grateful that I didn't gain too much weight. However, I did lose a lot of muscle tone and strength. Although I'd like to lose about 10 lbs., more importantly, I am just happy to be physical again. I THANK GOD every day for my ability to be active and most of all play with my children!!!
1 Year Anniversary on SparkPeople!!
2008 started off with many challenges as I was trying to feel my body out to know what exactly I could do without making my sciatica worse. Although I started off with small strides and it was a gradual process, by mid-year I was back to doing things I thought were a distant memory!!
I started running and interval training with HIIT and started increasing my strength through weight training as I had done in the past. YES, YES, YES, it's happening I remember thinking....I'm feeling normal again, WOW, did this make me feel good. I'm pleased to report I am doing really well. I could still do better with eating clean, but I am back to full exercise with little to no limitations. I am so EXCITED for 2009..... my current weight now is 117, 15% body fat. Also, if you haven't tried cross fit training you may want to check it out. It's a nice change but be ready to get your butt kicked b/c it is challenging......but isn't that the best when you can accomplish something that didn't come easy!! ~~~~~~~~~MARCH 2011~~~~~~~ Update...It's been too long!!! :)~~~
Wow it's been a long time!!! It's now March 2011 and I feel I need to update this an more importantly share more of my story!! When I left off in 2008 I was back on track completely, or as completely as I had ever been since my issues with chronic sciatic pain. I did run a lot that summer in local 5k races and started to feel good again. By the end of the summer I had finished in 3rd place in my age bracket for the challenge I'd been in. My best time was 23 min. and I was ecstatic b/c I still remembered the time that I didn't know that I could ever run again. Well, sometimes the unexpected happen!! Right before I was planning to do my final run for the summer (10K), my foot started bothering me. I thought it would go away maybe in a few days, well, it's been almost two now and well, it's still there!! I can have surgery and have the nerve removed but I've opted out for now. I still train consistently and even do better with diet than ever before. However, I haven't ran in two years. My workouts involve mostly weight lifting with just a teency weency bit of cardio on the elliptical. I will say the foot has been a real setback and I do get frustrated at times b/c I want to do things like HIIT and just go for a run but that's just not where my body is allowing me to go for now. So, I guess the point of me blogging is this....no matter where we are in our journey, it can seem so bad and frustrating at times, but honestly, we just have to keep striving towards the things we want and do the very best with what we have!!! So many times, I could've just quit and use that as an excuse, but no way, health and fitness is way to important to just give up and hide behind a fear! I'm happy to say, I am still loving my workouts and I changing it up A LOT!!! Yes, I'd love to even be further in my journey but I must say, I am so very thankful that I have the ability to live life the way I want and not feel defeated!!! It all happens within you, and your attitude will allow you to overcome obstacles, if you just focus on what you CAN DO, instead of what you CANNOT!!!! My husband and I are both fitness professionals and have our B.S. degrees in exercise science. We love this field and love working with our clients.
My career has taken me to more of a medical atmosphere working in a hospital based environment with morbidly obese patients who suffer from many health concerns and obstacles. Maybe this is why I was able to keep my head up during my rough times , I would think of some of my patients and remember how much they really had to overcome. Sometimes if we don't watch it we can easily become subject to our own self pity and at times I've been very guilty!! Prior to this I trained in a corporate environment, large fitness establishments, in home bridal training, and personal studios. I love this field and feel bad that I had to give it up for awhile.... Thank you Sparkpeople for allowing me to get back my motivation again!! I want to thank my husband for being so wonderful throughout this time and for being so so supportive!!!
