A 'new' me.

Hi I'm Martha-Ann.
I WILL endeavour to reach the goal I've set myself.
I CAN do it.
I want to be healthier and eat better.
I've had a few health problems but I've beaten cancer and now I'm just getting on with life.

I love SparkPeople.
It has everything I could ask for.
Good advice, great ideas but most of all friendship.
The people I've met through this site are wonderful and are helping me towards a better, healthier way of life.

THANKYOU.

This is a Sanskrit proverb by the fifth century poet Kalidasa, it seems to sum things up perfectly.

Salutation to the Dawn.

Listen to the salutation of the dawn!
Look to this day,
For it is life,
The very life of life.
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence.

The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory of power...

For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.

Look well, therefore, to this day.
Such is the salutation of the dawn!

My Goals:
I want to feel more confident about myself.

I want to be as fit and healthy as I can.

I want to live to see my grandchildren (and possibly their children) grow up and be healthy and fit enough to enjoy them.

I want to work on small goals of 10lbs and give myself a small reward everytime I hit one.

I want to see a 'new' me!!

My Program:
Daily exercising, going for long walks, gardening.

Eating healthily.
It is not a diet, it's a healthy eating programme.
It's a way of life and it's going to be MY way of life for the rest of MY life!

Personal Information:
I'm from Yorkshire, England...we call it 'God's Own Country'.

I live in a small village in the country but am only a few miles from the sea so I have the best of both worlds.

I'm 66 years young.

My DH and I have been happily married for 43 years.

I'm a wife, mother, grandma, nana, niece, cousin, aunt and great aunt.

I'm retired from primary education, l had to take early retirement due to illness and after a long struggle l'm now cancer free and back to being part of my community again.
I decided to lose weight and get healthy and am now working towards that goal.

Other Information:
My hobbies are very varied, everything from puzzles to zentangles, reading to gardening, walking to birdwatching, writing to photography.
I love language too, the nuances and foibles, so I enjoy dabbling with writing and poetry...my son once called me a wordsmith...I wish I lived up to it!

So glad you stopped by. Sorry you have been ill and hope you are feeling better.

It has been sunny and warmer here - we have had very little snow this year so they are predicting a drought this summer. Our river is still up but am sure it will drop.

I am doing well. Was thinking about my membership at Club 24, but went in and talked to Kristy. Decided to sign up for another year to protect my monthly dues - and to receive a free month. She said she can freeze my account for up to 4 months if that would help. But have been going more now - so will think about that as time goes by.

Our knitting group meets this afternoon - so that will be fun - as usual!!

That's funny. We have had a soft rain today, and windy. Looks like he San Bernardino Mountains are getting snow. Oh well, in a couple of days maybe we both will see more sunshine.

Thank you for the slippers. They match my fleece pants and shirt that are keeping me warm these days.
