I can honestly say that the second half of my life has been truly §MARVELOUS¡¨.
After being overweight most of my life; including childhood, I have finally reached a point where I am eating to live and not living to eat. I have dropped the label of being full-figure or big boned but have actually been described as ¡§healthy¡¨ fit, or sexy.
The combination of losing weight, exercising and strength training I was able to turn my body age back to 42; a gain of 15 years.
In 2009, at age 55, I set my sight to ¡§figure compete¡¨ and I accomplished that goal. I competed twice and the second time around I finished in 3rd place for the age group 50 and over. Also at age 55, I completed my first 5K for breast cancer, where I placed 3rd for age 50 ¡V 55 female. This is from a woman who hates to run and at the best use to be able to run in one minute increments.
I am one of those rare women who went through menopause without any major issues or need for medication and I think one of the factors which contributed to an easy transaction was because of my healthy life style. Also because of the strength training, my bone density results either improved or have not decrease over the last few years. All of these factors I owe to a healthy life style.
Life is great and how many 58 year old women still have the guts to put on a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleading outfit and jump out of a birthday cake.
I cannot wait to see how ¡§FANTASTIC¡¨ my 60s will be , which is two years from now, because I have truly ¡§ROCKED¡¨ my 50s.

Thanks for stopping by and sorry for the late response. I have been doing great. I am doing a 30 day, or more, elimination/reset. I eliminated caffeine, dairy, beans, etc. ; the purpose of this is to find out if, by slowly reintroducing foods that I want to eat back into my diet, will cause inflammation, i.e., indigestion, bloating, etc. I have found out that inflammation can also stall or prevent weight loss.
I feel great now, but had a rough first week after I eliminated coffee. I developed a 2 day migraine and very low energy, but I hung in there and I now feel wonderful. I am drinking herbal and flavored teas. . I am eating low carb and I eat fruit and starches like sweet potatoes, yucca, taro, etc., so I can get more carbs if I need them... I love sweet potatoes. Lots of cooking, but I love to cook so not a big deal. I am also adding in more salmon (Omega 3) to my diet. I still do the bulk of my cooking on the weekends.
Re: exercise, per your advice, I am focusing more on strength training. I try to get in 2 - 3 ST workouts in per week. Walk daily and add higher intensity, shorter cardio workouts like HIIT/tabatas, after the ST. I also add in more cardio to get in workouts that I enjoy like the kickboxing/heavy bag and step. I am trying to include, weekly, at least one session of pilates/stretching.
I have not weighed or measured myself, I am just focusing on eating right and gauging my progress on how my clothes are fitting. I seem to lose abdominal fat first. I will be glad when I start losing in my thigh and hip area. But I am not rushing it; it has only been one month. It took 4 - 5 months to gain all of this weight back and I am expecting that it can take at least that long, or longer to lose the weight. There is no hurry, I just want to continue to see progress.
Well, time to eat lunch and start batch cooking. I am making Italian sausage chili, egg/sausage/veggie muffins (for next weeks breakfast), roasted chicken (dinner) and green beans.
