Say it loud...I'm 60 and proud

I can honestly say that the second half of my life has been truly §MARVELOUSˇ¨.

After being overweight most of my life; including childhood, I have finally reached a point where I am eating to live and not living to eat. I have dropped the label of being full-figure or big boned but have actually been described as ˇ§healthyˇ¨ fit, or sexy.

After being overweight most of my life; including childhood, I have finally reached a point where I am eating to live and not living to eat. I have dropped the label of being full-figure or big boned but have actually been described as ˇ§healthyˇ¨ fit, or sexy.

The combination of losing weight, exercising and strength training I was able to turn my body age back to 42; a gain of 15 years.

In 2009, at age 55, I set my sight to ˇ§figure competeˇ¨ and I accomplished that goal. I competed twice and the second time around I finished in 3rd place for the age group 50 and over. Also at age 55, I completed my first 5K for breast cancer, where I placed 3rd for age 50 ˇV 55 female. This is from a woman who hates to run and at the best use to be able to run in one minute increments.

I am one of those rare women who went through menopause without any major issues or need for medication and I think one of the factors which contributed to an easy transaction was because of my healthy life style. Also because of the strength training, my bone density results either improved or have not decrease over the last few years. All of these factors I owe to a healthy life style.

Life is great and how many 58 year old women still have the guts to put on a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleading outfit and jump out of a birthday cake.

I cannot wait to see how ˇ§FANTASTICˇ¨ my 60s will be , which is two years from now, because I have truly ˇ§ROCKEDˇ¨ my 50s.

You are only as old as you feel and I feel great!!!

Charlene

Hey Char, thanks for the update!

It's really not that cold here. It was 33 when I left home, I guess because I live here I am pretty used to these temps. I will be walking all winter as long as there is not a lot of snow... I walked all last winter. I have saved over $1000.00 in public transportation costs!... I burn about 275 - 350 calories each way (1 hour per walk). Also, when I walk I actually get warmer the longer I walk, sometimes too warm. My main concern when it comes to walking is keeping my feet/hands warm... I dress in layers too.

I am glad you enjoyed your visit with Rodney. I don't know if I would ever want to actually live with someone again, but I wouldn't mind having a friend to do things with... someone who has his own place where I can visit him, maybe stay over sometimes and vice versa...

... anyway, I know you are glad to be back in the gym. I am taking a little break and will start up with another workout in a few weeks. I will be doing Chalean Extreme. This is a strength training program that uses full body compound exercises, 3X's week for 30 minutes per session. It is challenging but since I have fat/weight to lose, I remember you telling me that full body workouts are better in the beginning stages. The workout has 3 phases, Burn (endurance), Push (heavier lifting) and Lean (split workouts). The ST workouts alternate with cardio, like HIIT/Tabata, etc. So along with my walking I will also add the shorter more intense cardio workouts on none ST days. I have planned ahead because I know that sometimes with full body workouts soreness can cause a problem with me being consistent, so if I am sore on Wednesday ( ... my week will start with Monday)... I will just use P90X or other split workout exercises for the body parts that are not sore and then on Friday, add the full body workout in. The workout I didn't do the week before I will add it in the next week, etc. This will also allow me to mix it up a lot.. I created a binder for every thing... I will be keeping track of my workouts, eating and keep a journal of how I feel. This way I will have a record that I can refer to. My goal is to lose 10% of my body weight to reset my metabolism or setpoint.

I think my macros will look something like 40 - 70 carbs per day... protein 30% and good fats will make up the rest. I will see how that works and I will also be cycling them too, so that should help.

I will stay focused... thanks for your support and motivation (... you are a constant source of inspiration and motivation) it means a lot. Please keep me updated as well. You will be little emoticon ready in no time! emoticon ... can't wait to see pics!

Enjoy your day... ~ Dee emoticon

Hey Char, thanks for stopping by.

Rodney stayed with you for quite awhile. How is his recovery going? Glad to hear that you are back in the gym you have plenty of time to get in shape for your party/gowns.

I have not made much progress because I have to be more consistent with my eating. What seems to have worked for me last year when I lost weight, diet wise, doesn't seem to be working now!.... I think that I have screwed up my metabolism because of this yo-yo dieting. But I am not giving up. I feel that ultimately if I follow a low carb diet consistently I will make progress.

P90X is great, very challenging, I have about 5 more weeks and then I will take a break and start another round of P90X or Chalean Extreme on January 13th. I know the strength training will pay off in the long run.

What will you be doing for your workouts?... Please keep me posted because it will help motivate me. We can do this together for the next 3 months...

Well, enjoy your evening and stop by when you can. Take care, ~Dee emoticon

Hi Char, thank for stopping by my Spark page and blog. Sorry it has taken so long to respond to you. How is your knee doing? Are you back at it full-force yet?

You mentioned that Rodney would have his surgery on July 15th, how is he recovering from his surgery?... Is he going to make an effort to lose weight once he is able to get around better?
You guys must feel kind of like a married couple already!. emoticon . isn't this the longest he has stayed with you?

Your party sounds like it will be fabulous, as usual, that's no surprise with you planning it. I know you will reach you goal way before your birthday.

I am still struggling. I think that I have been going through a little depression lately. Just life... recently divorced, although we had been separated for a long time, he did remarry and I have no prospects at all and looks like I never will. I don't want to be a downer so I will stop here.

I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking about you and to thank you for your ongoing support. I hope that in a couple of months I can at least feel like I have lost a some weight/inches,!

Take care, and stay in touch, don't stay away so long!... also, I sent you a friend request on FACEBOOK and you never responded to it.

emoticon ~ Dee
