Working on Thin for Life

Hi! Over the course of my life I've lost over 200 pounds - in fact, I've lost the same pounds over and over again! I've been going through this since i was in High School! Time for a change.

I need to lose about 50 pounds to get down to a healthy weight. But, this time, I don't mind if it takes me a year to do it! I want to lose the wieght and keep it off. The trouble is, I want to be able to have the occassional drink and dessert too!

I know that the one thing I need to focus on changing is my level of activity. I really want to lose the weight so that I can get back to enjoying the out of doors, hiking in the mountains and working in my yard.

My Goals:
Goal #1 - Increase my steps per day by 500 a week until I reach 12.000 steps.

Goal #2 - lose 12 pounds by Christmas and keep it off over the Holidays.

Personal Information:
I consider myself a New Englander stuck int he Midwest! I currently reside in Northeast Ohio, but grew up "back east".

Middle aged with four grown children, I am taking the time to focus on me.

Other Information:
Avid reader of mysteries and thrillers, but rarely snub any book offered.

I'm working on my MBA degree and hope to finish by December 2008!

Hi Mary,

I am new to SparkPeople and I am going to start Monday on a Type 2 Diabetic diet as well as working out for 6o minutes to help me lose weight. This is per doctors orders. I need all the help and motivation I can get, because I haven't done this before. If you want to help me that would be great. Nice to meet you and I hope to hear from you. emoticon

Mary - How are you doing with your fitness and weight loss goals? How are your studies going? I started back to college this Fall. I'm taking Physical Geography and Intermediate Algebra. I hope I can manage both. This is my last semester for an AA degree with a paralegal emphasis. Missing you on the ESRD team. -Leyla

Hi Mary -Welcome to the losing weight with ESRD team. Cutting down on sodium might be accomplished using your nutrition tracker here on spark. You can customize it to show sodium as well as fat, folate, etc.
Processed food has the most salt. Good luck in reaching your weight loss and fitness goals. -Leyla

Thank you for your encouraging note! I noticed that you are a mom of 4 finally taking time for yourself....we are in the same boat! I just had my 4th child 2 1/2 months ago- but I am determined to pick myself up and get myself back to where I want to be so I can enjoy my family!! You and I are also on the same plan- slow, steady and permanent weightloss! Keep up your good work!
