I am my own greatest health advocate.

Hi! I'm here to keep keep myself as healthy as I can and lose a few pounds so that my clothes fit comfortably. And for me, that's pretty much 90% based on what and how I eat.

Hi! I'm here to keep keep myself as healthy as I can and lose a few pounds so that my clothes fit comfortably. And for me, that's pretty much 90% based on what and how I eat.

I have struggled with a nameless illness of many symptoms since April 2009, to ward off additional pain, fatigue and brain fog, I have adapted myself to a gluten free diet. And I make sure to eat tons of seasonal fresh fruits and vegetables every day. I take supplements and try to focus my diet around anti-inflammatory foods.

My weight loss game started from when I was at my highest weight as a teen. Now, my weight usually fluctuates between 120-140 every year. (Every winter I gain 5-10 pounds and lose it for the summer only to repeat the pattern....) But I'd like to develop better habits in order to keep it within 120-125 where I am comfortable. As my husband says (of himself), "it's easier to lose 5-15pounds every year than 50pound in 5 years". He recently joined with me to work off 10 pounds himself--I am so proud of him!

I do much of my own cooking and stock our kitchen with as many fresh veggies and fruits as our budget can handle. I am gluten free but I love to BAKE and have dabbled in dairy-free, vegan, grain free and paleo recipes. I find I do best with whole foods, but if you look inside my kitchen you get a bit of it all.

UPDATE: 7-29-13 This month I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease. My husband and I have been suspecting this for a while. Now I have even more reason to develop and KEEP good nutrition and health habits. The better quality foods I eat, the better my body can fight this. Pass the veggies, please... and a dab of butter.

Hi! I am just starting to take my health back today. I started having "mysterious" symptoms in 2009 as well, that just got worse and worse. My life was de-railed. In Aug. 2012, I finally was diagnosed with Lyme.
No one could understand how I was sick all of the time, as I was one of the "healthiest" people they knew as far as habits. After I was diagnosed, I knew I had been trying to compensate the whole time, after many doctors told me I was just stressed or it was in my head, or I had a mental disorder. It was good that I was so healthy, but it was for the reason that I felt like my poor health was my own fault, so I had to make it better.
It's different now: I know my poor health is because of a disease, but that I have power over it as well.
I think we have a lot in common and I hope that we can check in from time to time on this journey. I am going gluten-free again too. (I figured out that gluten had a role to play in my illness, long before I knew that it didn't go well with Lyme, or that I even had it) emoticon
