An Amazing Me by 33
Hi, I'm Kristy. Like most girls, I have beat myself up about my weight and my figure my entire life. When pressed however, I will easily tell you that no, I don't REALLY think of myself as overweight, and logically, I know this to be true. Not that I've ever been skinny. What is this weird passive-aggressive relationship I have with myself? I have been a perfectly respectable size 12 for as long as I can remember, and yet, maybe it's the knowledge that an 8 (or even a 10!) would look ...

When pressed however, I will easily tell you that no, I don't REALLY think of myself as overweight, and logically, I know this to be true. Not that I've ever been skinny. What is this weird passive-aggressive relationship I have with myself? I have been a perfectly respectable size 12 for as long as I can remember, and yet, maybe it's the knowledge that an 8 (or even a 10!) would look awfully nice on my frame (and way better in a bikini).
I think I always believed that if I wished hard enough, one day I would just wake up thin. Well, I'm getting closer to 30 every day, and my body LOVES finding new ways to demonstrate that I'm not a kid anymore: heartburn, indigestion, hangovers, exhaustion... weight gain. I've suddenly been hit by the realization that if I don't change some of my habits, I am much more likely to wake up fat - no wishing necessary. Enough. This is the body I have to wear for the rest of my life, and it's well past time I made peace with it. Let's make it my favorite outfit!
December 26 - I invite you to read my End of Year Progress report, and see how reality balanced against my initial goals!

**I want to make physical activity a part of my daily life - not the hectic, chicken-with-its-head-cut-off frenzy I endure at work, but the healthy, I-will-not-have-a-heart-attack-before-30 kind.
**I want to make friends with vegetables (yuck).
DONE!! :D (We can now call them "yum!"
**I want to wear shorts in summer.
I am giving much more careful consideration to what goes in my mouth, and paying attention to when I am full. A big step will be planning my lunches, and making them the day before, as well as ensuring I've packed enough food to keep me going throught the entire day. I own my own business, and often put in 10-14 hours a day, so the food has to last - otherwise I am guaranteed to get home and shovel. Mmmm... emotional eating... Sorry, I'm ok. I have set a fast break goal of 10 minutes of cardio a day, and have found that time by picking out my outfit the night before.
My name is Kristy, and I'm from the Northern Chicago suburbs. I'm originally from WI, and went to school at Indiana University Bloomington, where I got my degrees in Opera Performance, and Biochemistry. It logically follows that I am now an interior designer. I have the world's most amazing husband, and three perfect kitty-children aged 8, 6, and 4. Lastly, I have a tattoo in Latin, that I really enjoy telling people means "if you can read this you're over-educated." I enjoy it even more when they believe me.
Design is not only my career, it's also my passion, and for that reason I'm more likely to be found doing that, than anything else. Occasionally however, I do manage to squeeze in some other interests. I LOVE to read. My favorites are Tom Robbins, Margaret Atwood, Anne Rice, and Japanese comic books, but I will read anything - seriously... anything. I love watching anime, knitting, babying my precious black Chrysler 300, red wine, foreign languages, and anything with alfredo sauce.
