Trying to find my new groove

2013 was my year of change. I lost close to 70 pounds and was well on my way to my goal of 100 pounds gone forever. March 2014 brought on an unexpected injury. I am adjusting to being less mobile and having to re-learn how to lose weight without the heavy cardio I was depending on. Working hard at Physical Therapy so that I can hike, run and exercise like I want to. Teaching myself that it's okay to have set backs, to get back on the horse. Even if I have to change what was working for me - I ...

My Goals:
My goal is to lose 100 pounds.

My Program:
I work out and count calories, fat and fiber (basically Classic Weight Watchers). I use an app to track my calories and fitness.

Other Information:
I track everything I put in my mouth on a phone app called "Diet Watchers Diary" - it has the classic Weight Watchers POINTS which I love. I have tracked on SP too and it came out in my range. If anyone wants an example of my daily foods, I'd be happy to provide one. I stay between 1500-1600 a day (and a tiny bit more when I burn a ton of calories)

Thanks for visiting my blog! I think tracking on Sparkpeople (or anywhere) is definitely useful, and for folks that can do it easily, I can see the efficacy, it just doesn't always work for me. I tend to get too wrapped up in it, and it makes me anxious and cranky, and I don't like that emotional aspect of it for me. I'm glad you have been successful with it though, I think if it's working for you, go for it!

I'm right there with you. I'm doing my best to avoid the mirror and scale right now and focusing on my diet and exercise, but it's hard. We'll get back to where we were and go even farther than before. *hugs*

That sounds great! It IS super fun!!!

Yes! You can just show up! Make sure you let the instructor know that you ARE new. That is scary, yes... but it's important! If they don't ask you if you'd like help setting up the bike... ASK THEM. Do not feel bad or embarrassed because a bike not set-up properly will do injury to you...and that's not good. So very important!

You may or may not be able to make it through the whole class (if it's an hour). That's up to you! Not sure what your gym is like, but some people have to leave early...so it's not a big deal if you gotta bow out. And if you're totally exhausted after 30 minutes, that's fine...just cool down, stretch and leave. No one will judge especially if your new! The cool thing about spinning is that you have NO IDEA how hard or light someone is spinning because the instructor is just a "guide", and while you follow their general instructions... they SHOULD be telling you to do what YOU can. That what they are doing is just an "guide" for what you should work up to after more experience... but it's helpful. Do not be embarrassed if you need to do less resistance, or if you need to stand up and get a "butt break" while riding because it takes a few times to get used to the saddle. People in spin classes generally aren't judging and really excited when new people join... so they won't judge you, but think it's cool you're trying it.

Cycling shoes are ideal if you have them. They clip into the pedals and help you maintain ideal position and work more of your muscles, BUT THEY ARE OPTIONAL. I do not have any right now, though I really want them because I spin enough. Your gym shoes are perfectly fine and normal. Just make sure you tighten the shoe cages enough so your foot can be in place better and you can utilize more muscles when you pull up.

Do your best! I'm excited for you! It's super fun and has a very small learning curb. You just need someone to show you how to set up the bike... and then learn how to ride properly (flat feet...and not putting all your weight in the handle bars). And their are two standing positions. That's about it. Pretty simple! I'm here for you if you need me! Hope you like it!!!

Oh boy, if there was some way to turn off the "crying mechanism" I would in a heartbeat. Not only do I cry when I'm sad - I cry when I'm frustrated, confronted suddenly, laugh too hard/smile too big (seriously my eyes just leak!) But it can be so frustrating and embarrassing. I burst out in tears and just feel so unprofessional and "young". I hate it, and I think I am better at it than I used to be - I'm still not where I want to be with controlling it.

I do the same thing with my blog - it's sort of a stream of words that come out and I usually realize why I am feeling a certain way. I always end up feeling better getting my thoughts out.

Thanks for the great comment on my blog! I'm SO glad that you can relate to exactly what I'm going through! It sucks to be the way we are sometimes, eh? The thing that just keeps going on in my mind is, "Why in the world did I act like that??!!" It's just driving me bonkers. It's so ridiculous and I can't believe it happened. Now I have to regain trust of a couple people and prove myself mature. Blargh... :-/

I totally get ya on the the "controlling" things. That's probably the hardest thing I struggle with in my marriage. The fact was amplified in marriage just because when it was just me...it WAS just me! I had all control! Now it's not just me...and I have to learn to sacrifice...shut my trap...and let him lead. Easier said than done YUP!

Again! Thank you for your super sweet comment! I really appreciate you and your friendship!!! Sending hugs!
