Howdy, my name is Michelle. I grew up on a farm, so weight wasn't an issue until I moved to Alaska for my Ph.D. in geology. I gained 60 pounds while I was up there for school. I remember sitting on the couch after polishing off a lot of really fatty, greasy food and thinking I was a grizzly bear getting ready for hibernation. Thought I would start losing weight when we moved to Texas but I kept packing on the pounds. A few months ago, I started having thyroid issues and then I realized I developed a sensitivity to gluten.

My goals are to drop at least 50 pounds over the coming year so I can play with my son without looking like I am dying (gasping for air, beat red face, etc). I am also realizing that eating gluten-free food is a lot higher in fat than I expected, so I need to be extra vigilent tracking my food. I have started exercising. I have a sedentary office job and a long commute, so it has been easy to plop down in the chair in front of the tv when I get home. I am trying to break this habit and get on the treadmill for 30+ min 3-5 days a week. Gotta break the cycle.

Welcome! If you need a shoulder, a friend or a virtual coffee at some point, drop by and say hello! I've just celebrated my SP six month anniversary and am amazed at the absolutely incredible amount of support I've received. This is a fabulous site and you will be astounded at what you get out of it if you give it your all.

To celebrate your arrival here at SP, as well as to welcome in the new Spring season, I would like to wish you a brand new start, never-ending moments of poise and balance and a joyful tip over on the scale to the side of light. I wish you a new dawn, an eternal youth and a morning star to wish on. Whatever battles you are fighting, whatever stresses may come your way, may they melt away with the winter and may you be granted a time of new light and a new life where your wildest dreams come true. ~ Michelle
