about how we chose our new dog - we travel a lot and have had a wonderful woman who is involved in border collie rescue take care of pelle all these years. she knows us, how we live, and what we did with pelle to take a frightened and abused dog and give him a home that made him feel secure and confident with all the activity and love that a border collie needs. claire was a foster dog with sally and when the last foster home did not work out, she thought we would be a good match - we knew that we did not want to be without a dog, because pelle was so much a part of our lives, we told her what our "requirements" were - including enjoying riding the car and not barking, both of which have been problem with previous dogs (not pelle), and able to keep up with our hiking. we had met claire when we met up with sally right after pelle died, and thought she was wonderful then, and a few weeks later when sally said the family that was going to adopt her changed their minds, we agreed to "try her out" - knowing it would probably be perfect, and so far it is. sally will take her when we travel, and she will have two loving homes, just like pelle did. so far so good...
