"Down" with the Weight

I'm Monica, single adoptive mommy to Mikey who is now 11 years old. Since he was 2 years old, I've been steadily putting on weight to the point that I feel that I can't keep up anymore! I want to be active and healthy for and with my son (and myself). It is time to get back on track. At the end of June 2009, I signed up for a year with Herbal Magic and it is my hope that I can drop 100 pounds in that year.

My title "Down" with the Weight is a bit of a play on words as my son, ...

My title "Down" with the Weight is a bit of a play on words as my son, Mikey, has Down syndrome. One of my major reasons for losing the weight is that I want to be healthy and active for him - to ensure that his life is all that he deserves.

My Goals:
My original goal was to lose 104 pounds in one year (June 2009 to June 2010). I managed to stay right on track from June 2009 to the end of October 2009. At that point, I platued for 3 months and then lost my focus. It is now June 2010 and I've regained some of the weight I lost and it is way past time to get back at it.

I am now aiming to lose the 104 pounds by the end of 2010. Here are my short term goals. Keep in mind that on June 25 I have lost a total of 37.5 pounds.

- August 1 - 50 pounds

- September 1 - 60 pounds

- October 1 - 70 pounds

- November 1 - 80 pounds

- December 1 -90 pounds

- January 1 - 100 pounds

My Program:
I joined Herbal Magic on June 24, 2009 and am committed to doing it for one year to see where it takes me. I am following their diet, tracking my food intake, drinking my 8 glasses of water a day, using the supplements that go with the program, planning to increase exercise to daily exercise and checking in with the consultant at Herbal Magic at lesat once a week.

Personal Information:
I live in Southern Alberta, Canada. I'm a special education teacher. I am also a single mother to a 10 year old who just happens to have an extra 21st chromosome (aka has Down syndrome). I'm currently in the process of trying to adopt a second child. In the middle of all this I'm looking to carve some time that will be used to take care of me. I know I can do it!

Other Information:
February 8, 2010: I have started doing the couch to 5k (C25k) this week. My goal is to run in a 5k race on April 24, 2010. See my blog for updates on how I'm doing with this new program.

I too want to look and feel better for my kids. I am actually a mom to 3 children, my daugther is 13 and she is a typical child. (other then being a teenagers) My boys are 2 and 4. My 4 year old, Caden has been diagnosed with Aspergers, Oral Motor Apraxia (he was non verbal until 7 months ago, he knows sign language) Possible ADHD and anxiety. Our 2 year old Colin, has severy sensory delays and Severe anxiety. SO much so that he hurts himself. He recives in home OT and Special Ed. Caden attends currently a theraputic preschool and recieves, OT, Special Ed, and speech all week, until we can figure out if we are giong to mainstream him next year or not. Life is busy, and I've not taken care of me, becuase of it. This needs to change. Gym time is Kym Time and enjoy every second of it. Even more so I enjoy the results that come from it! I am looking forward to running my first 5K and going through this journey with all the wonderful people on here that I've met!
