Need changing some nasty habits...

I work on a computer all day long... Commute to work by car... Not much opportunity to walk, which used to help a lot to keep my weight under control. In addition, I tend to eat emotionally, when I am relaxing at night. I like to snack all the time!!! What a killer habit! I figured I have to change this habit, because I think it can be changed. I also need to pick up some cardio exercises...

---- EDIT ----
Well, after a year of making it a priority for me I managed to get my weight under control. I had lost 6kgs before joining SP, and I have lost 19kgs since joining SP. I still would like to lose more fat, but at this stage it is way too slow. I have ditched for good my emotional or comfort eating. I have even learned not touching my daughter's ice-creams even if the fridge is full of them, without using ANY willpower at all. I have also developed several good habits of exercise, like cycling, running and weight lifting. And yes, these positive changes helped with other fields of my life too. So, overall feeling great, but still chasing a lower body fat percentage. Hopefully next year this time I will have reached my target body fat percentage, and I will edit this text for maintenance.

My Goals:
Getting rid of emotional eating and making cardio workouts a habit...
---EDIT---
Reducing my body fat percentage to 15%.

My Program:
- Workout.
- Learn to enjoy workout.
- Eat right.
- Sleep early, get up early.
- Keep the mood positive no matter what.
---EDIT---
- Mild/no deficiency of calories, almost like maintaining, but not quite.
- Lifting heavy weights 2x a week.
- Mountain biking 1x a week
- Running 2x a week
- Taking 2 rest days a week

Other Information:
I am a lover of science fiction everything. Fond of computers, programming, mathematics, physics and engineering. Chemistry was never a favorite, I don't know why. May be because it is some type of physics where the focus is on a reduced subset of phenomena? (Chemists will probably get angry at this point).

Hi
"I wonder what weights your are lifting, given that you are not failing at all... My squat failed for the first time at 77.5kgs. Previously my standing OH press had failed at 42.5kgs. I am yet to fail at bench press (largest I have gone so far is 55kgs), barbell rows (largest so far is 65kgs) and dead lift (largest is 95kgs).
"

You're doing better than me at squat.. I had to build up from the bar because of my knee. I've been gentle and it seems to have worked. I don't think in this round of the routine I will fail on squats because the weak point is still my fear of the knee - although squats have made it a lot, lot better.

Deadlift is odd. I did that instead of squats really and it's always been my favorite lift. I'm a long way from failure on 5x5 but I think my first failures will be at 125kg.
OH press is hard to judge. Form is too easy to lose but I think it's bad at around 52kg on 5x5

Benchpress is upper body - A lot of my early training was upper body so 70 kg is uncomfortable but doable (5x5)

Rows - I do power clean instead but again these were a little limited by the knee so I am coming up from an empty bar over months so in comparison it would be quite low.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter how much you lift - it just has to be a little more than you lifted last time. I doubt, for example, I'll be pushing deadlift much past 160kg ever.. there's no point. You can run into joint problems and injury too easily. Although muscles grow.. joints and bones are less accommodating.

I am surprised about he recover time effect. It actually seems that I am getting stronger and faster with much less exercise.. On reflection though, this is how I trained as an athlete.. few, short intense sessions...

Thanks for your comment on my "Bike Upgrade" status. The new crank, cassette, tires, wheels, stem, pedals and saddle cost $710. My Specialized Camber Comp now far more comfortable and performs like it should. Now in addition to being quick and maneverable, the bike is also fast! The bike is now lighter and stronger.

Thanks, Bruce

I absolutely know that forgiveness is not the same as forgetting.. I struggle with that that everyday for years now.. I can only hope that the memory will fade in time.

Thanks for your great comment on my blog and helping me with the dumbbell squats. I was doing the squats with the dumbbells on my shoulders as you suggest, but I still feel that it is very different from the ones I was doing at the gym with the barbell. The balance seems to be a much bigger issue with the dumbbells. So I thought that maybe, I was doing something wrong. I will try to read a little more about it and, I guess, I will figure it out with time. Have a good one!

Hey.. yes these last few pounds seem hard. As you say it is a complete mystery. The lack of weight loss is also pretty definite. My diet is unchanged really the only thing that has changed is the work out sessions which fo the last three months (low rate of weight loss) were measurably harder.

A guess is that my metabolic rate has dropped. Certainly my heart rate is around 54 down from 80 (although people claim they are not related.

Whatever.. at this stage it is turning out to be a grind........
