I have battled my weight for over 30 years and have started and stopped so many weight loss attempts, I was convinced I was doomed to fail each one. What caused my setbacks were always sweets. As soon as I would get stressed, I would fall back in to eating excessive sweets and that would set me up for months of binging on sweets.

Two years ago, I discovered SparkPeople and thought for sure I was headed for success. I did great for nine months and lost almost 30 pounds. And then I found out I had a gluten intolerance, which really changed the way I ate. I discovered a lot of gluten-free foods that were good, but most of them contain very little fiber or nutrients. I quickly gained 10 pounds because I was trying every type of gluten-free food I could find...cookies, cakes, crackers, muffins, breads, etc. --even though I hadn't been eating much of them before going gluten-free.

And then a few months ago, I started eating some gluten containing foods and got out of control with them...even gained another 5 pounds. I figured if I could control the symptoms with Imodium, why not! Only that doesn't control the joint pain or dizziness. Within the last two weeks, I have almost passed out several times and I am ready to recommit to a healthier eating plan--gluten free and within my calorie range.

This time around, I am going to do it the right way. I'm ready to do this for the rights reasons--my health and not my looks. I didn't really pay too much attention the first time to setting short- and long- range goals...this time I will.

And I really need to find a way to handle my stress. I'm fine if it's about me...but most of my stress is worrying about family members' health issues and problems for which I have no control and I need to learn to hand those over to the Lord.

My Goals:
My long-range goal is to lose at least 83 pounds, preferably 98.

My shorter term goals are:

1. Start using my recumbant bike for 15 minutes a day to start...and increase as my body is able to handle it.

2. Increase my vegetable intake by having a low-sodium V-8 juice each morning at break instead of a soda and also including at least one vegetable with lunch and dinner each night. I'm not much of a vegetable lover and I need to change that.

3. Get 10% of my weight off by my birthday in February.

4. Get below 200 pounds and never go back.


My Program:
I will track my food every day and try to stay within my calorie range. If I go over a little once in a while, I won't stress about it.

I will focus on getting more protein and more of the nutrient-rich carbs such as fruits, vegetables and high-fiber gluten-free oats and less of the low-nutrient gluten-free snack foods.




Personal Information:
I live in Marlborough, NH with my husband.

I'm 56 years old and have two sons, two DILs and five grandchildren who are the best thing ever. They range in age from almost 3 years to 13-year-old twin girls. I'm so fortunate that they live close enough so I can see them at least once a week.

    Hi:
    I saw your status update. Just wanted you to know I will be praying for you. I haven't been on the team post to often lately because it has been really hectic and I usually just enter my food and exercise and log off. I don't know the reason for your stress but Jesus does and He has the power to help. Don't beat your self up over this try to make the best choices you can and take one day at a time. We all have times when we feel we are not being successful.
    Again let me say I will be lifting you up in prayer.
