My Goal to Become a Fit Grandmother

Took a look at my Spark page recently, and decided maybe an update was needed. A lot has changed since I initially joined Spark People in 2009. The granddaughters have grown, 6 and soon to be 8, (going on 25 or so). I am retired from my long-time job as business manager of the local newspaper, although I still show up there on production day to help with the insert stuffing and such. Took a look at my Spark page recently, and decided maybe an update was needed. A lot has changed since I initially joined Spark People in 2009. The granddaughters have grown, 6 and soon to be 8, (going on 25 or so). I am retired from my long-time job as business manager of the local newspaper, although I still show up there on production day to help with the insert stuffing and such. Two summers ago I lost my husband of 36 years to pancreatic cancer, a quiet, deadly disease that gives little warning or hope of cure. I still struggle with gaining and losing the same poundage repeatedly, although my current weight is almost 20 pounds less than when I began Spark People. Have 20 pounds to go to get to goal and recently joined a local TOPS group to make me accountable to a weekly weigh-in. Nice group of ladies who are very encouraging and patient with my set-backs. I continue my musician duties on the weekend, it's a nice supplement to my retirement income and the folks at both parishes have become like family to me. I continue to cut fabric into very small pieces and sew it back together, enjoy my computer and do my best to maintain my old house and acreage. I'm blessed with a loving family and many good friends, and determined to be persistent in my weight-loss efforts with the goal of staying active and healthy as long as I can. I've worn a pedometer for years, recently switched to a Fit Bit and try and stay competitive with my 35 year old son. It is usually a losing battle, but it's fun.

My Goals:
My beginning goals are pretty basic.
1. Drink my water
2. Add 20 min. a day to my usual exercise
3. Journal my food (and feelings)
4. Work on evening eating, I've really allowed it to sabatoge my program
5. Limit refined carbohydrates

My Program:
I have most of the eating principles of Weight Watchers and South Beach (plus a few recent ones from OA) committed to memory. They are often de-railed by emotional eating, occasions when I use food for comfort or entertainment. Addressing the emotional aspect will be as important as the plan of eating.

Other Information:
My favorite leisure activities are walking, reading, writing and quilting..

Thanks for commenting on my blog, JoAnn. I am much more rested today. You're right about the coffee pot - I think I was going into withdrawal after 3 mornings with no coffee. lol

I forgot to mention - the only electronics I really missed was the cell signal booster. When I'm out by myself clearing brush with a chainsaw, I feel better if my cell phone is working in the cabin in case I need help.
