My Goal to Become a Fit Grandmother

I have obsessed about my weight since second grade. Since I recently celebrated my 63rd birthday, that's way too long a time. I have gained and lost the same 40 pounds four times at least. I know that this yo-yo dieting has stressed my body more than the 40 pounds ever did. Now I am the grandmother of two adorable granddaughters, just over 2 and 6 months, and my goal is to be the fittest and healthiest I can be so that I am here for them, and can just plain keep up. Now I am the grandmother of two adorable granddaughters, just over 2 and 6 months, and my goal is to be the fittest and healthiest I can be so that I am here for them, and can just plain keep up. I live in northern Michigan with my husband of nearly 33 years, and our very spoiled pets. I still work full time as an office manager plus have a part-time musician job on the weekends. In my spare time, I love quilting, and have included a sample here.

My Goals:
My beginning goals are pretty basic.
1. Drink my water
2. Add 20 min. a day to my usual exercise
3. Journal my food (and feelings)
4. Work on evening eating, I've really allowed it to sabatoge my program
5. Limit refined carbohydrates

My Program:
I have most of the eating principles of Weight Watchers and South Beach (plus a few recent ones from OA) committed to memory. They are often de-railed by emotional eating, occasions when I use food for comfort or entertainment. Addressing the emotional aspect will be as important as the plan of eating.

Other Information:
My favorite leisure activities are walking, reading, writing and quilting..

Thanks for reading and commenting on my blog. I think I will ask Santa for a FitBit for Christmas unless the Spark one works well with Chair Exercises which I am questioning. I do want to exercise and I know the encouragement I would get from the feed back would be good for me. I just wish I felt better a day later instead of feeling like I need Tylenol to move. Pain is a difficulty I have not yet learned to overcome.

Hey, thanks a zillion for the sunny yellow teapot! Tea is my secret weapon. Amazing how a glass of hot tea can squash a craving. I like to save my gingerroot scraps in a cup and pour hot water over them. Makes a refreshing brew. I count it as part of my water. Do you think that's cheating? emoticon

Thanks for your comment on my Beck blog about learning to stop overeating. The brownie exercise would have been impossible for me a few weeks back. The Beck method of mind training really does build on itself until, for me, I'm finding myself in a place I couldn't really imagine. Just like those sofa-bound sparkers who end up running half marathons.

It sure is making me a soul-deep believer in small steps, done consistently. Nowadays I'm a "having pain Got pain? Then emoticon !!!!" person. (Discomfort, of course, is not pain!) We've GOT to find little changes we can live with. I showed up for SparkPeople for the calorie counter but I think I'm finally getting the message.

I'm glad you enjoyed the Trouble Tree blog. That has been around a long time, but I enjoyed rereading it. Thanks for commenting. emoticon
