Hi! My name is Lisa and I am a 40 year old woman who is morbidly obese....wow, that was hard to say. Turning 40 last November and now finally admitting I am a fatty.
I went to the doctor last Monday, 2/18/13. I got on the scales and they said 303! Yes, 303! Talk about a reality check. Granted it was the 1st day of my period, so it could possibly REALLY be 298? (wishful thinking). My doctor did blood work, said she wanted to check my cholesterol because she wanted to find something to motivate me to lose weight. In my mind I was thinking 'hitting the 300lb mark on the scale kinda just did that for me'. Anyway, it was then and there that I decided that a change had to come. I talked to her about getting me something to help turbo boost me. She gave me a script for adipex. This is NOT going to be an easy task for me. I am a junk food junkie...and on top of that an extremely picky eater.
How am I gonna survive? Will I make it? I am just guessing that my 'usual' normal day of food was probably upwards of 3000 calories a day. For example...my normal breakfast would be a bacon, egg and cheese biscuit from hardees. Shamefully I admit that on occassion I had 2 of those. Lunch...fast food. Typically some kind of hamburger combo or a chinese lunch with 2 egg rolls, and dinner...well always some kind of fried meat, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, green beans and of course 2 to 3 rolls. Wow. Writing (typing) it out makes it seem so much worse, but wait...we aren't done yet. I still have time for my nightly snack. EVERY night I have to have something sweet to eat so I either have a little debbie snack cake with a glass of milk. Or maybe a bowl of icecream? and by a bowl, I mean a BOWL. It may be just a regular sized bowl but it is jam packed with ice cream. I am talking this girl can eat a half gallon in 4 days. Thinking about this is making my head spin and my stomach growl...Grrr!
So, how do I go from this to a healthy diet? I do not like many veggies at all. I like corn, green beans, black eyed peas, green peas, lima beans, and okra (but it has to be fried). So, let's cut to Tuesday. I know I went to the doc monday but that was late afternoon, so my plan (or lack of) kicked in on Tuesday. I woke up and got ready for work. Made my way into the office...by passing hardees. That wasn't 'too' hard. Got to work and fixed myself a glass of ice water. Drinks aren't really a big deal. I only drink water and powerade zero anyway. Never drink sodas. I do have sweet tea with dinner but hey, you can't take everything from me.Took my adipex, along with a water pill and 2 White Kidney Bean extract pills. For lunch I went to publix and bought some honey wheat bread. I know it isn't the healthiest choice but I am gradually gonna convert to something better. It was a step though, I normally get white. Went over to the deli and got half a pound of ham, and half a pound of white american cheese. Came back to work and made HALF of a sandwich. One piece of bread, one piece of ham and half a piece of cheese. EVERY day since 2/19/13 I have eaten that for lunch. Well exclude weekends where I didn't eat anything for lunch. Dinners have been stuff that I normally cook but only eating half of what I put on my plate. I have had a night time snack every other day but I make sure that my calories allow for it. Now, I know this plan isn't going to get me where I need to be. It is a start though..
I haven't stepped on the scales yet. I have been very tempted but I am forcing myself to wait til the 2 week mark which will be next Tuesday. I am really hoping to have lost something. If I haven't, I know I will become discouraged. So, with all that said, I am looking for encouragement, advice, whatever you have. I know I have to work exercise into this program but I am also very aware that right now even 5 mins on my bike will feel like an hour. Let's face it...it's obvious that getting up to 300 lbs I haven't done alot of activity. It's gonna be a long road, surely winding and bumpy but I can do it. For reference I guess I should throw in that I am 5ft 8in tall. I look forward to any help you can throw my way! Oh, and my cholesterol ended up coming back as good, but my sugar was elevated a little, not to a diabetic level. I honestly find that surprising.
I hope to be at 200lbs by Valentines Day 2014. This gives me a year.
I am watching my calories as provided by spark people. I am also incorporating some exercise in as well.

I need to be super careful due to some weirdness with my metabolism. One test came back saying I would have to work as much as 7 times harder than your "average" person to loose a pound. That doesn't mean I can't do it. It means I need to really DO IT. I'm just terrified of losing my will to keep going. Today is a bit better. Thanks for your support! It's really the shot in the arm I needed to keep trudging!

Hey, thanks for your comments on my post..
I dont really use the trackers as much as i used too, but in terms of what i put into my body..
I mix my diet up to confuse my body, on a low calorie week i have 6-800 calories made up mainly of protein, veg and fruit ..
Some weeks i may eat more carbs, just depends really on what i have planned in terms of exercise..
I have 15-16kg left to lose and will bring me to my total loss of 71.6kg.. almost half my body.. So far ive been trying to get in shape since September the 3rd.. aiming to reach goal in 10 monthes.. :-)
