Welcome to viewing my weight loss progress. At the beginning of January 2013 I weighed 286 pounds. I had surgery November 11, 2013. Sleeve Gastrectomy to be precise.

I began this journey in the spring of 2013 after months of being ill due to asthma which wasn't diagnosed. I decided I never wanted to be ill like that again. I got help for my breathing. I'd lost more than 30 pounds in three months, only because I was too sick to do anything, so I decided I wanted to get hold of my weight problem.

A few of my friends had undergone weight loss surgery in various forms. The one that I looked to the most was a co-worker named Steve. I asked him and his wife, Justice, a lot of questions, but I had a front row seat to how his life changed after surgery.

From June through October I went to Puget Sound Surgical Center to meet with the medical staff, a nutritionist, a psychologist, and a fitness expert. I weighed about 260 pounds in June. I had blood tests performed and began taking vitamins to help some extreme deficiencies. Specifically Vitamin D and Vitamin B-1. My B-1 was so low that it was affecting my brain function, and that can be irreversible. I thought maybe I was going into early onset Alzheimer's and so did my husband and even my children. Without starting this journey, my mental health wouldn't be as good as it is today either. I also take a multi-vitamin and calcium. I was amazed at how much of a difference taking the vitamins made.

Beginning in June I started eating off a small plate. I also eat my protein first, my vegetables second and if I have room I eat carbs, but I usually don't. I chew my food 30 times before I swallow. I drink water and sometimes juice, but in very small quantities. I stop drinking 20 minutes before I eat. I don't eat sugar and the only substitute I like is Truvia. Some sugar free alternatives make me ill. I do not drink any carbonated beverages.

I read labels. Everything must have a high protein content and a low sugar content.

Oh, and if you're thinking of having surgery, I highly recommend it if you have struggled with your weight for years. If you've gone on a number of diets only to have your weight return. If you have health problems that are either directly or indirectly caused by being obese. To be obese one need only be twenty pounds overweight. I was lucky in the fact that my insurance paid for it, but even if it hadn't, I believe my life and health are worth it.

I had high blood pressure. Not anymore.
I was pre-diabetic. Not anymore.
Joint pains. Not anymore.
I have Asthma which was out of control. Now I have very few occurrences.
My B-1 is at a correct level. My brain function is back to normal. Vitamin D is at a correct level.
Cholesterol is 145.
I have energy. I jogged the other day for the first time in years!

My Goals:
Lose weight, feel better, be healthier, be able to jog again, hike, enjoy some of the simple pleasures I did when I was thin. :)

My Program:
I eat off small plates.
5-6 meals per day.
Protein first.
Veggies second.
I rarely eat carbs.
Drink only water. No carbonated drinks.
Vitamins - multi, D, B-1 & B complex.
Exercise daily.
