One Day @ a Time
ONE DAY AT A TIME, SWEET JESUS (Marijohn Wilkins / Kris Kristofferson) I'm only human, I'm just a woman. Help me believe in what I could be And all that I am. Show me the stairway, I have to climb. Lord for my sake, teach me to take One day at a time. Chorus: One day at a time sweet Jesus That's all I'm asking from you. Just give me the strength To do everyday what I have to do. Yesterday's ...
Yesterday's gone sweet Jesus And tomorrow may never be mine. Lord help me today, show me the way One day at a time. I heard a snippet of these lyrics this morning and it was as if I had truly heard them, in the depths of my heart and soul, for the very first time. In life, in relationships, in health and wellness, on the job...in everything that I do, as I seek to grow in Him - my fervent prayer is to learn to take all things one day at a time. "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven." ~~Ecclesiastes 3:1 This is my time to be healthy, happy, and whole...one day at a time. After 7 years of solitary concentrated effort and dedication to weight reduction, I joined SP in early 2006, but never really took an active approach until September 2007. This site has become a phenomenal resource base, and I have become a part of a tremendous virtual wellness family. In May of 1999, I weighed approximately 375#s, and on January 1, 2009, I weighed in at 212.5#s. I won't tell you that it was ever easy - until now. I won't tell you that at times my weight didn't fluctuate like the stock market in the latter months of 2008. I won't even tell you that I've TOTALLY conquered the feast beast and NEVER fall off the wagon. I will tell you that by God's grace, everytime I stumbled or tripped or fell - I got up and started again from the very place I stood. I will tell you that looking back, I know that I am stronger, wiser, healthier because of what was revealed to me each time the journey was sidelined. And I will tell you that looking back, I am humbled by all that I have been blessed to experience on my road to health and wellness. I spent the last six months of 2008 eating a clean vegan diet, that showed a marked improvement in my weightloss, my blood pressure, all of the numbers that my doctor fixates on, my complexion, and my energy levels. To learn more about that leg of the journey, check out my Blog Entries. As of January 2009, I am back to a my vegetarian based eating plan, but I'll admit that most weeks it's at least 80% vegan. It's no longer a daily struggle to eat clean and healthy as long as I listen to my body and give her what she wants. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ These are the rules that I've learned to live by on my quest for total health and wellness... Rule #1 - You've Got To Really Want It!!! Rule #2 - You've Got To Want It For The Right Reasons!!! Rule #3 - You Can't EVER Let Anyone Else Tell You That You Can or Can't Have It!!! Rule #4 - You've Got To Recommit To It Each And Every Day!!! Rule #5 - You've Got To Learn To Listen To Your Body And Adjust Accordingly!!! Rule #6 - You've Got To Reward Your Accomplishments (even if it's just a quiet, heartfelt atta girl after you finish a set). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ One morning I realized that in my overzealous desire to revamp my SparkPage on a regular basis, I've lost my tracking of my weight reduction over the past months. I'm desperately working on backtracking through posts and blogs to reconstruct it so I can have a visual log of my progress over the past year. Here's what I've found so far... 9/29/07 = 264 1/1/08 = 247 6/09/08 = 260 (blew out my knee - had to start over from this point) 6/30/08 = 244 7/7/08 = 240.5 7/14/08 = 237.5 7/21/08 = 235 7/28/08 = 239 8/4/08 = 240 8/18/08 = 229 9/1/08 = 230 9/2 = 230 (SparkColumbus Turkey Trotters Challenge*** 9/9 = 226.5 9/16 = 231 9/23 = 231.5 9/30 = 228 10/7 = 226.5 10/14 = 227.5 10/21 = 223.5 10/28 = 225 11/4 = 222.5 11/11 = 220.5 11/18 = 222 11/24 = 215.5 11/27 = 216.5 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~ Starting Weight Day #1 = 223.5***Daily Sparker Fall Finish Line Challenge Checkpoint 1- November 6th = 222.5 Checkpoint 2- November 20th = 222 Checkpoint 3- December 4th = 219 FINISH LINE- December 18th = 211.5 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Measurements: February 18, 2009: Bust 41.5"(-4); Waist 34"(-3.5); Hips 43.5"(-5.5) October 23, 2008: Bust 41.5"; Waist 35"; Hips 45" August 3, 2008: Bust 43"; Waist 37"; Hips 46.5" May 1st, 2008: Bust 45.5"; Waist 37.5"; Hips 49" ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Positive Thinking Makes Positive People ~~Norman Vincent Peale Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Do not build obstacles in your imagination. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Beatitudes of Worthiness Blessed are those who have done all they know how to do. When they stop, God Starts. Blessed are those who doubt their importance to God. God will never give up on them Blessed are those who resist the urge to prove themselves. They are the owners of true wealth. Blessed are those who understand that life is a process of growth and healing. They will grow, and their minds will be healed. Blessed are those who don't beat themselves up for making mistakes. They will live a peace-filled life. Blessed are those who realize they are doing the best they can. They will go within themselves to find a better way. Blessed are those who hold no against-ness. They will be open to new ideas and insights. Blessed are those who keep working toward a better understanding of the truth of who they are. They will ultimately find the truth. ~~Iyanla Vanzant ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

My Goals:
1) Reducing my body weight in 10% increments Goal #1: 10% = 234 ~SW 6/9/08 = 260***Goal reached 8/8/08 = 232 Goal #2: 10% = 206.1 ~SW 8/18/08 = 229 2) Increasing total body strength, endurance, and flexibility 3) Eating a relatively clean vegetarian diet. 4) Ultimately breaking 200, simply to find out for myself what it feels like after more than 25 years. After summertime freedom and the accompanying scale fluctuations, I'm within 17#s of goal, and set to hit target before the end of the year!!
My Program:
As of August 2009, I am following Dr. Johnson's Up Day Down Day Diet (aka The Alternate Day Diet). Essentially it allows me to "diet" only every other day. It's a different twist on calorie cycling, and actually is working very well for me. It allowed me to dump my summer/vacation bloat and reduce my body fat by an additional 11 #s in 4 weeks!!! Cardio 4 days per week (either two 20 minute sessions or one 45 minute session X 3 days and one extended session of cross country hiking 1 day w/ wind sprint intervals included); Circuit Training 2 days per week for 40 minutes . I listen and respond to what my body needs, and it truly makes all of the difference in the world.
Personal Information:
My name is Anita, and I'm from Columbus, Ohio. Over the past decade, I have maintained a 100+ pound weight reduction, earned both a Master's and Bachelor's degree and managed to continue aging gracefully. I am honestly excited about what my 40's will bring into my life.
Other Information:
I love to read, particularly anything related to spirituality, health, fitness, and nutrition. And I'm one of those random inviduals who actually LOVES to workout. I discovered that about 2 years ago while working with a personal trainer - who da thunk it? ;-)
